The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I don't think she'll weaken much at this point, but I do think she'll hit further north than Miami.

That isn't good news for ksen and LCS albeit happy news for me, Sam Cree and trini.

I have some of a different brand that I like better, but I think it was pricier. Called "Sootherbs Zinc", and it has Vitamin C, too. Doesn't taste as nasty.

But I guess pills are easier.

Luckily I don't get colds often. I figure growing up with a big family with lots of friends and therefore with all the things we were exposed to, I'm prolly immune to about ninety percent of all germs at this point...

At least it'll be over the weekend, and you won't have to deal with trying to get off work.

Amen, chica.

They already put the "response team" on notice that they may fly them out tomorrow afternoon.

Obviously, I refuse to be on the "response team". That's just silly.

I seem to get light colds pretty often which I attribute to poor eating habits.

Good morning! It's Friday! And I'm down a bit this week, nearly back to the number I keep swinging around, five pounds to either side. Sigh. I really want to lose another size before I have to buy winter dresses.

No, I just don't like Sailormoon. I have a lot of... anime bigotries that I learned from the great people who taught me about anime. IE dubbing is wrong, in general shows should have redeeming value, insanely popular (among American fans) shows are usually crap... I'm still working past them. Heck, it's hard to watch "Naruto" because I can't find a plot, or character development, or anyone to really root for...

Oh well. They intro'd me to some really great stuff, so who cares about the weirdities.

Congrats on being down!

Yeah, I bounce around a lot too. Seems like I'll drop to a weight I haven't quite gotten to before, then spring back three pounds or so and stay there for a coupla weeks before dropping again. I guess as long as the general trend is down, that's positive...but the in between times are frustrating, especially since I'm usually stuck at a few pounds ABOVE my lowest weight.

At least my pants fit better! And I should be into the next size pretty soon. If I stick to this.

Ah! I have a better answer for you. RE "magical girl": if it's just a plot device, like in Full Moon, where it helps tell the story, I'm ok with that. If the "magical girl" device IS the story, I don't like it. Does that make sense?

Anyway I watch Full Moon for the music. And the Shinigami.

I see your point and agree. There needs to be more to a story or it is just typical example of a sub genre. I had a similarly biased (against SM) person who was instrumental in getting me into anime. That person did not no the show well. The original anime of SM actually DOES have over arching plot lines and character development. Unfortunately it is deluded by large numbers of episodes that are fairly predictable. I forget the total episode number (190?) but it could have been distilled into about a third that and have the same level of plot and such. I still like the original anime but the only way to watch it is to sit and watch many episodes at a time so you DO get the plot. The anime's strongest plot points are focused in certain episodes and in the last few episodes of each season (the finales). When I had seen about 20 episodes of the new live action series I would tell people that is had all the plot and character development of the anime condensed down and made unpredictable. Now that I have seen 47 episodes that comparison is right out the window. The live version has way way more plot and character development and many twists you don't see coming. SM has some great stores to tell about friendship and sacrifice but many anime fans can't get past the 'monster of the week' plots in the anime to find the bigger story. And if said fans have seen the dub...oh my, they will never get it. I don't mean to go on and on about it but it is pretty normal for anime fans (who are not young and female) to not give SM a real try. What got me hooked was watching the movies subbed at the first con I went to. The first movie is still one of my favorite anime shows.

Doesn't SM have lesbians? I try to avoid echii, too... and yeah, SM seems kind of "kiddy" (other than the lesbians). I may give it a try at some point, since you recommend it, but I like big dramatic epics... that don't drag on forever.

Heh, this remind me of a discussion I had with someone who said that she didn't lile Escaflowne because it was a soap opera! I mean, yeah, it's bizarre and weird but calling it a soap opera goes too far...
