Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Pass them by! Pass them by!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

fun little book...quite funny
To: RosieCotton
It's funny in a dark and twisted way. And the names are pretty famous - Neil Gaiman did the "Sandman" graphic novels, and Terry Pratchett writes Discworld. "Good Omens" is sort of about the Apocolypse.
Oh, yeah, I'm making a Happy Anime Care Package for my sister (equivalent trade for Smarties, like I mentioned) so I'll burn and ship yours at the same time. Tommorrow, if possible, or Saturday if not.

And also twisted. I'm glad they used Pratchett's Death, Gaiman's is too happy-perky-Goth.

twisted...yes, in the Brit sorta way
To: libarian
I love Brit humor. IMO, the Brit humor came from Pratchett - that's his forte. Gaiman's a rather darker sort. "Sandman" was touching, not funny. Pratchett's "Discworld" often manages to be both, like in "Night Watch".
Pratchett reminds me of Douglas Adams, only more prolific (Discworld 29 comes out next month! Yay! It's Pratchett versus the Postal System!)

I've never read Sandman or Discworld, though. So...I'm allowed to be ignorant, I think.
Kewl about the anime!
Back to battling viri and worms...

Try Good Omens, if they've got it at the library! If you like it, you'll want to read some Discworld books. Not as much Gaiman as Pratchett in the writing, IMO.

They don't have it...maybe someday.
Currently reading something by someone named Lois McMaster Bujold...can't remember how I came by that name. I'm not sure I'll finish it. It's pretty cheesy, IMO.
But I'm just in an ornery, contrary mood today, and that's part of it.

Er... well... I recommended her to you... which one are you reading? Some of them are cheesy, some are clever.

Reading Warrior's Apprentice. It's interesting, I guess. And unique. So that's not the problem.
But I'm kinda in the mood for something else. Maybe I should just try again later when I'm more positive.
Maybe I should read some Thomas Hardy until I come to my senses.

Yeah, and it's an early work so it's a little weaker. I didn't like the series until I'd read several of the books. Only read them because a friend of mine insisted I had to. But they're not the greatest literature.

I'm not getting home for good until after dark, but I may just wander around a bit anyway, along the main streets where there will be lights. It's so nice and warm today, without being hot. Should still be vey pleasant by the time I'm free.

Matthew's learning about World War One in Heritage Studies...the teacher in in the video taped class played this song for him...
Johnnie get your gun, get you gun, get your gun,
Take it on the run, on the run, on the run,
Hear them calling you and me;
Every son of Liberty
Hurry right away, no delay, go today,
Make your daddy glad to have had such a lad
Tell your sweetheart not to pine,
To be proud her boy's in line.
Chorus:
Over There, Over There
Send the word, send the word,
Over There
That the Yanks are coming,
The Yanks are coming,
The drums rum tumming everywhere
So prepare,
Say a Prayer
Send the word,
Send the word to beware
We'll be over, we're coming over.
And we won't be back till it's over over there!Made a big impression on Matthew...he REALLY liked the tune. Got him all fired up.
