Home is behind, the world ahead, |
Oh yeah, forgot about the convention! You and Jen both have lots to do this weekend, no?
I could use an extra two hours or so in a day.
Isn't that baiting? ;-)
It's kind of you to let them know why they are about to die.
Good morning!
Good morning everyone! It's raining and about as wet as it can get here too.... Course, I asked for it in July when we really needed just one or two of these days! Too late now for the pasture, it turned green, but it is tooo cold at night now for it to actually grow much.
you guys are suh mean...
and the one who opened a packet of vinegar with her teeth and poured it on Nana's greens
you say that like itsuh bad thing...
have a good day, muh homely friend...
Wish I could have sent you more of our rain! We got soooo much this year, really!
Not as much as Corin, though...
yeah... I guess... and yuh cain't bait deer in these parts, but the huntin regulations don't say nuthin' bout trespassers... I should know... I'm a certified Hunter Edukashun Instructor dontchuh know...
least I kin do...
we been dryyyyy... good rains in late June... then dry till about two weeks ago, when we got 18" in 60 hours... not a drop since...
pasture looks good though, and the food plots... but I put 2000 lbs of fertlizer and 12k lbs of lime down and re-seeded right before the rains two weeks ago... nice n green now...
My pasture ~needs~ something. It just has no zest, even this last spring when it rained it did not grow well, I think it has just been robbed of all nutrition, regardless of the fiertilizer the horses spread. ;~D I don't know exactly what we should do with it! I could overseed it, but how can I improve it? till it? or just disc or harrow it? fertilize it? With what? What did you buy?
I got a soil test done, went to the local Ag store, and had them come out and spread the fertilizer and lime...
fertilizer and lime are cheap when you buy them by the ton... lime around here is $14 a ton... but they charge $40 a truckload to spread... they can get 6 tons in a truck...
if you put it down this fall, you should see results in the spring... if you can't disc it in, it takes about 6 months to see results... if'n you can disc or rough up the soil, the results are seen in a few weeks... most farmers that grow hay or have pastures lay down lime and fertilizer in the fall...
I do want to do something this fall. Thanks. I have to make some calls and see who can do what here.
Yeah, if you put it that way...
How about two hours that must be used for sleep?
Maybe not.
It was a nice thought, though. At least BC...before coffee/caffeine.
Speaking of things that need to be done this fall...don't let me forget to put in bulbs this year!
I'm hoping to put in at least a bunch of daffodils. Maybe tulips, too...but I haven't had the greatest luck with those.
I'm running out of places to put things, though! Unless I dig a trench on the edge of my land and just jumble all kinds of flowers together instead of planting neat, spaced things. But the idea appeals to me, actually...
I've had better long term luck with Daffodils than Tulips. I have had tulips look terrific the first year, and then poop out. I don't think I know how or when to fertilize them either. Daffodils, though, come up year after year.
Growing up, we had daffodils that were planted ten years or more before come up year after year. So...that's probably a good way to go.
Tulips are so pretty, but my attempts have been half-hazard at best...I planted neat rows, only to have every third tulip actually come up. Looked sadder than not having them at all, really!
Daffodils are cheaper, too...which is nice. Just wish they lasted longer! But I guess that's why God invented annuals...I can put those in as soon as the daffodils give out.
Yes, I get to go to a con this weekend too. Much less work involved than what Talon's doing; I just have to drive down and fork over my money.
Talon, at the door it's $25 for either Saturday or Sunday, $45 for the whole weekend, including Friday. Is that a usual price?
Could you plant some clover? It seems to do well even in dry conditions and it fixes nitrogen in the soil, so I guess it enhances the soil so that other things can grow later.
