The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

That I'm 21....

That's ok. There are plenty of 30 somethings that wouldn't mind dating a 21 year old.

But I'm not looking to have a family until I'm 28 or so. That kinda makes a difference, doesn't it?

Plus I have enough trouble understanding the cultural background of someone my age. Add in an extra decade of culture I know nothing about and communication gets even harder... I mean, you guys all laugh every time someone dies and I say "Who's that?", I don't guess it'd be much easier in rl.

Oh, yeah, and I don't want my father to have to kill anyone.

I haven't met any unmarried thirtysomethings that I wouldn't mind dating.

If your not really a 'mainstream' culture kinda person then that is not as much of a factor. A common outlook and common values are much more critical and harder to find. 2J is right, Early/mid twenties guys have hardly grown up yet.

When it comes to Kerry and his hunting exploits... I guess the essence of the matter is that I just don't buy it coming from him. Pretty much nomatter what he says.

Kerry accepted a Remington 11-87 from the union at Remington Arms. It would be illegal for a mere mortal to possess that "assault weapon" under the expanded "assault weapon" bill that Kerry has supported. The least Kerry could have done was lock the bolt back before flourishing the shotgun for the cameras. Maybe he got his gun safety course from Al Gore.

I'd pay good money to see Kerry crawling around in the mud, hunting deer with his $20K Purdy double barrel shotgun.

On another note: there won't be a draft here. Mainly because we don't need it. Enlistment quotas are being met and then some. This is ia false issue raised by democrats just to scare people.

It's also illogical. Why, all of a sudden, do we need a draft to get the military back to a size that was easily maintained by volunteers in the past?

The only rational explanation for this to be remotely true is that the military, which was quietly downsized 40% during the "golden years" of the Clintons, really is too small to handle the major-war-and-a-brushfire that is still the official mission statement on the books. During those same klintonian "golden years", the industrial base upon which the military depends shrank, too. There are no armored vehicles, combat aircraft, or small arms in the pipeline to equip a bigger military, draft or no draft.

The truth-that-dare-not-speak-its-name is that the klintons may have shrunk the military so far that increasing its size is unthinkable, and certainly unmentionable. Instead we have a phony "debate" on bringing back the draft as a diversion from the real problem.

Klintonism, the gift that just keeps on giving.

Safe journey, friend.

Please keep your cell phone charged, so I can call and give you the "all clear", OK?

Yeah, I'll keep it charged.
If I get to VA, it's rural enough where I'm headed that cell phones don't work there.

Talk to you when I get back, for sure, though.

Stay safe, Ruthy, good luck.

I'm assuming the thing will probably miss Miami, but it's getting too close for comfort.

Been through 3 of these things, decided not to make it 4.
