Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Pass them by! Pass them by!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Friday? I haven't packed yet!

I cannot say this at home (or outloud anywhere), but since this happened I have had a great sense of dread that this is the beginning of the "great decline." I hope I am wrong, but I wonder if she will "ever" come home. You could very well be right and the "great decline" could last for a long time. It will be a strain on the family- so better to assess the situation now and prepare yourself to prepare your family for it.
(speaking from recent experience, ignoring the reality of the situation doesn't make it easier.)

Nah, still just Thursday. Up drinking coffee and waiting to take Joseph to school. He's attending the same high school our older boys attended. It's probably like the one at which you used to teach; private Catholic, all boys, prep school. It is a great school, and the principal is a personal friend.
It's been a shock for him, going back to school after homeschooling the last three years, but he's doing fine. He's in all Honors classes, so there's quite a bit of work. He's a little worried because the Spanish teacher speaks almost exclusively in Spanish, but at least gives homework assignments in English! ;o) He'll do fine, and I can help him with the Spanish because I'm familiar with it. The older boys took French and I couldn't help them at all!

Is it drippy up your way? It's been raining off and on for the last 24 hours. Weather guy says it's the remnants of Frances. Our hole in the ground in the back yard is starting to look like a pond! Thankfully it is covered in tarps so the ground won't be wet!

School I went to, students were either studying or getting drunk. Never both at the same time, though. Pikers...

Good morning!
Yep, we're now getting Frances' remnants. Lots and lots of rain...we're going to have minor flooding, for sure. I'm on a hill at work and at home, so no danger...but I COULD potentially have trouble getting home the way I usually do.
I hope it doesn't flood. This town just dealt with a pretty bad flood a few years ago...some of the (admittedly small and not very healthy) businesses didn't recover in spite of insurance.

Whenever I tried both, one or the other always suffered.

Sounds kinda like our co-op...There's a whole bunch of things available. I chose softball for Matthew and tee-ball and spanish for Joshua.
A good friend of mine is the wife of a Lutheran minister (Missouri synod, naturally) and her husband teaches Latin.

I wanna take thegirl's classes. OK by you? ;-)
Sounds wonderful!
I'm trying to play fiddle again. It ain't the easiest instrument...and I'm reminded once again that not only do you have to hold everything right, it takes different muscles than the mandolin. Takes awhile to be able to play without getting very tired very quickly.

I know there are people in Cuba, too...but I can't help hoping Cuba and Jamaica take most of the wind out of Ivan's sails before it hits Florida. Wrong of me, perhaps.

Today is Matthew's first day of Latin. Cool! I got some Latin materials for the kids, but we never got around to it! Joseph is taking Spanish, and is complaining about the teacher speaking mostly Spanish in class. ;o) He'll get used to it, he just likes to complain. I call him Mr. Misery!
