In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

acclivity \ah*kliv*itee\, noun:
acclivities; noun, plural
acclivitous; adjective

1. An upward slope
2. Ascending, ascent

It prompted the matron to say that she would walk a little way--as far as to the point where the acclivity from the valley began its first steep ascent to the outer world.
--Thomas Hardy, Tess of the d'Urbervilles - A Pure Woman

Etymology: Latin acclivites, from acclivis, uphill: ad-, ad- + clivus, slope; see klei- in Indo-European Roots.]

I don't disagree with you.

What's the expression? Cautiously optimistic..........

Now there's a men's bathing suit I wouldn't be ashamed to wear. Especially if it came with those color-matching accoutrements!!

Most men's trunks these days look as if they were designed by drapery manufacturers who got paid by the yard. I refuse to be dictated to in fashion by those who have no fashion sense.

Fair warning to those who may invite me to a pool party -- I have my Speedos ready. Better keep the sunglasses at hand.

yes, i have been feeling better about things. i always doubted that Kerry could win, but the sheer volume of bad things going his way and his inept way of dealing with them have been piling up and making me feel better.

I'll bet our dear CG could find a pic for us to show, side by side, of our Lady Laura and Kate Jackson........ then they probably won't look alike and I'll feel like an idiot, but in my MIND they look alike!

no, i agree with you, i just wasn't thinking of it last night. but they have the same upturned eyes, which is i think the basis for the similar look.

He is extremely inept with handling bad news.

If he can't handle a heckler, how does he possibly think he could handle another 9/11?

I did hear FPL say that while he was cutting off Andrea Botox during her praise of Laura. It seems his delicate ears couldn't stand any more reports of how well this convention was playing, even to his fellow dems in the LSM.

that point was made in several pieces i have read lately, and that to me is the most telling point of the swiftboat controversy, his inability to decisively deal with it.

Even the FPL can see the handwriting on the wall. The Swifties have turned the tide. 250 Brave men and a paltry million bucks have turned sentiment against Kerry and no amount of Terry McAuliffe spinning can stop it.

You could offer him a Kleenex if he's planning to boo-hoo on air like he did after the last election.

I think the resemblance to Jackson is in the way both of their eyes tilt up and their mouths when they smile. It makes for a very pretty face.

He can't decisively deal with anything.

On another thread I read a quote from Leno's monologue last night about even Kerry's favorite sport depends on which way the wind is blowing. (Windsurfing)

"...afterall. i like a good noserubbing.... : )"

It occurs to me that Cyrano was regarded as a great lover *. I always thought it was because of his poetry.

* (I wouldn't have picked that...)
