I was at the Westlake Village Barnes & Noble yesterday and true to form, the store was packed with anti-Bush books galore. I felt like I was walking into the DNC, not a bookstore. They didn't have Unfit for Command and they didn't know when any additional stock would arrive. Anyway, they had a display about Current Affairs/Politics on the first floor next to the Information Desk that had every conceivable "Bush is evil" book on the table. There was also a note about an appearance on August 23rd by Robert Scheer, co-author of The Five Biggest Lies Bush Told Us About Iraq. For any fellow Freepers in the Westlake Village/Thousand Oaks CA area, you might want to show up tomorrow and give Mr. Scheer a piece of your mind. The store's contact info are:
Thousand Oaks 160 S. Westlake Blvd. Thousand Oaks, CA 91362 805-446-2820
I think the lesson is loud and clear: stay out of Barnes & Nobles. I have noticed the SAME thing more than once in West LA so it doesn't seem to be a fluke. The nuts at Barnes & Nobles DON'T LIKE PRESIDENT BUSH. By the way, the people who work there are full grown adults who seem to be living examples of what went wrong with the LIBERAL PUBLIC SCHOOL EDUCATION. Just try asking them to look up a book on their computer. If it requires more than four letters to spell, plan on being told they don't have the book, even if they do.
One way to look at this:
Unfit For Command is not there because all the copies have been sold.
The Bush Bashing books are all there because nobody ever bought the copies that are in stock.
Although I love my alma mater, the University of Southern California, I stopped donating to the University several years ago when they put Robert Scheer on staff at the School of Journalism.
Every time I get a call from the University to make a donation, I make it known to the caller that having this communist on their faculty precludes any donation from me. I'll continue my donations once he's gone, and not a moment sooner.
I suggest a proactive boycott. Take a book to the counter , ask to see the manager. When he/she appears tell him/her you want to buy the book in hand and also "Unfit..." If it is not produced pronto, hand him/her the book and tell him/her you buy both from Amazon.
Second preference -- go drink the Starbucks and read but don't buy.
B&N is a very liberal company. I worked their briefly last year. They're directors in New York are very left.
Saturday, I went to a local Borders, half expecting not to find "Unfit..." I searched the store and was ready to ask the Customer Service rep. for the books whereabouts, and then I saw their sign:
"Unfit for Command is our currently our top selling non-fiction title. We sell out quickly. Please reserve your copy today. Shipments arrive on Monday."
I was pleased, and glad that I could still shop at Borders. Where else would I buy my copies of "Backwoods Home" and "Hobby Farms?"
ping
"Ooh, ooh! My local B&N has only ONE copy on UfC, but TWO copies of MY LIFE up front! BOYCOTT!" "Ooh, ooh, they didn't offer to order the book for me within 0.45647 seconds of my asking for it! BOYCOTT!!"
Ridiculous.
