I contracted a virus on my cpu that redirects my browser to the now infamous about:blank web page. I went to semantec and norton, followed their directions, and had no success. Anyone else out there have a problem with this?
I'm not familar with that virus, but make sure you have you IE set correctly. Go to tools > internet options and under the general tab make sure you have a web page in the "home page" section. Might not be a virus after all....
Kim Kommando has a page that addresses these nasty problems... http://www.komando.com/tips_show.asp?showID=7446 which will point you to http://tomcoyote.com/hjt/
Good luck.
thanks for your help.
thanks for your help.
That's why they keep me around..... plus my ability to extract information from people without the need for anesthetics. ;-)
Spybot and Ad-Aware will get rid of that along with other spyware, malware, trojans, etc. They're both free to download.
thanks for your help.
I had that and it was a pain to get rid of. I ended up buying norton antivirus and it took care of the problem. It was worth the investment. Nothing worked before that.
I think that may be my best course of action. That and finding the little bastard that programmed this and kicking the crap out of him for about an hour.
you need cwshredder......a browser hijack to an "about:blank"
homepage is a trojan called."coolwebsearch"
get CWSHREDDER....only utility that can get rid of it.
Let me know when you find him. My email and main page completely reset itself. Lost all saved email and the computer started running slower and slower and do screwy things. I was not happy! Hasn't happened since the antivirus cleaned it up. Figured it was a whole lot cheaper than rebuilding a new computer.
CWSHREDDER worked. Next time you are in Chicago freepmail me. I at least owe you a dinner.
sorry to hear that... hope things went well with the shredder, at least run that program when you get a chance to check it out, it has saved me numerous times... ;)
If he/she survives for the entire hour then, no offense, you ain't working hard enough!
