Books on Bush, Kerry rushing to the presses

Two distinctly different titles supporting distinctly different administrations are heading for a late August release.

The first is a title from World Ahead Publishing (Los Angeles), a new publishing house seeking to produce titles on free markets and individual liberties. Its first book, THANK YOU, PRESIDENT BUSH: REFLECTIONS ON THE WAR ON TERROR, DEFENSE OF THE FAMILY, AND REVIVAL OF THE ECONOMY, is a collection of essays written by conservative and libertarian policy makers and scholars, including Art Laffer, George Shultz and William Bennett. The editors are Rod Martin, founder of the Vangaurd political action committee, and Aman Verjee, who created the NASCAR magazine, American Thunder. The book also features a foreword by Jeb Bush.

Publisher Eric Jackson said the book's release was timed for Aug. 30, the first day of the Republican National Convention. The initial print run will be between 25,000-40,000 copies. In addition, the two editors of Thank You, President Bush will be at the convention handing out free copies and having discussions with the press.

Meanwhile, PublicAffairs (New York) announced the forthcoming publication of KERRY/EDWARDS: THEIR PLANS AND PROMISES. The book is a compilation of publicly available information about what a Kerry Administration would mean for the country, and has an introduction by Michael Kranish, a Boston Globe veteran who co-authored a biography published by PublicAffairs called John F. Kerry: The Complete Biography By The Boston Globe Reporters Who Know Him Best.

Kerry's relatively late announcement of a running mate--and publication date of Aug. 31, day two of the GOP convention--means the book won't be available at the Democratic National Convention, which starts in Boston July 26.

The print run for Kerry/Edwards: Their Plans and Promises is an estimated 30,000 copies, while the Kerry biography had an initial print run of about 50,000.

Neither World Ahead Publishing or PublicAffairs worked with either candidate's campaigns to get the book started, nor is there a relationship with the parties' respective national committees.

And for readers who already support the president, A Matter of Character is the book they’ve been waiting for.

I bought Yommy Franks book after seeing him interviewed on Sean Hannity's show.

Surprisingly, my husband has glommed onto it and is engrossed. My husband is not a recreational reader, so I have to assume the book is very interesting.

Heck, I stumbled onto the Hannity interview of Franks at the bookstore in New York
(usually have Medved tuned in then).

Heck, the only problem I had with the interview: why did Dubya let this man retire!?!?

Exactly why is this surprising? It's been obvious to me from day 1, when Bush declared he is running for the presidency, and he proved it many times over since then.

I spent yesterday afternoon with a bunch of Bush-haters, where we attended a birthday party for my brother in the SF Bay Area. One guy, a "Republican," said he can't bring himself to vote for Bush this election. I held my fire, since it was my brother's party and his friend. But I perceive from the conversation that most of the Bush-hatred stems from a lethal combination of ignorance, arrogance, and spiritual darkness.

Yes, it was interesting to have a book about character and GWB start out skewering the Clintons. We bearly survived Bill's incompetent reign; Her Heinous would be a disaster for this nation.
