In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
cajole \kuh-JOAL\ verb
1. to persuade with flattery or gentle urging especially in the face of reluctance; coax *
2. to deceive with soothing words or false promises
Example sentence:
Peter's friends cajoled him into coming to the party even though he was not in the mood to go.
Etymology: Did you know?
You might not think to associate "cajole" with "cage," but it's likely that these two words are connected. Researchers have made an association between the prattle of a caged bird and the persistent wheedling of a person attempting to get something out of someone else. "Cajole" comes from a French verb, "cajoler," which now means "coax" but at one time meant "to chatter like a jay." Some etymologists theorize that "cajoler" is from "gaiole," an Old North French word meaning "birdcage" and ancestor to our word "jail." "Gaiole" derives from a Late Latin word, "caveola," which means "little cage" and is the diminutive of the Latin "cavea" ("cage" or "cavity"). Our word "cage" derives from this noun, and "cave" is a close relative.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Practice makes perfect.....post on....
I lived so far from anyone I knew for over 5 years and I'm having a hard time remembering that I might, occasionally, run into an old friend here............
The house is slowly coming along - I go out "window shopping" several times a week and find a few things I like - but haven't completely finished buying furniture or draperies - things like that.
Our back yard is a disaster zone of weeds and sand - I try to think of it as an opportunity to begin fresh and do whatever we want back there - I'd be happy if the weeds died....lol
Sounds like you've had a busy summer.......
Thanks for the idea Bob........
Hey, just let me know the next time you are in the area and I'll be delighted to try to arrange a meeting-Junction is a pretty long drive away, though.
busy, busy, busy!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to hear things are coming along, even if slowly.
morning, gabz. beautiful, cool sunny cloudless day here. i went out on the deck to xs this AM, which is VERY unusual. this weather is fantastic, today and yesterday. hope it has been good out your way as well.
dye job is first up today. with the new person. i am not worried, i generally don't freak out about my hair. hope she does a good job though.
Sorry I missed you popping in last night, but the week finally caught up with me and I decided not stay up on line half the night!!!
Yes, we have the same type weather as you.
It was downright chilly on the soccer field yesterday morning
I just hope we can get a few more days like this so everything will dry out............the farmers are hurting badly, so many of the fields are practically swamps and they can't get into them. Tomatoes, one of the major crops here, are particularly taking a beating. Major harvesting should have started over a week ago. I saw one field yesterday that even driving by it you could tell the tomatoes are just rotting on the vines.
Is this an El Nino year? Seems like everyone has had too much rain -
XS I am jealous of the nice weather - it so beyond hot here during the day but did cool off nicely last night. I was out moving sprinklers - Our yard is on a corner so I have to water all along the side too - odd shaped yard to say the least -
Texan5 - We are on the South West side of Houston so a trip to SA is about 2 hours for me - How far to the northwest are you?
I have no idea what is up with this weather...it is truly bizarre.
Hubby said cutting grass yesterday was like cutting hay....and some sections of the yard he can't cut at all because there is still so much water on the ground. But it's got no where to go as the ground is so saturated.
I would expect that the price of canned tomatoe products are going to go up this winter.....as the tomatoes grown around here are destined for cans and jars and not dinner salads.
My Mother lives on a lake in North Texas (near the Oklahoma line) - their lake has been slowly drying up for years - Two weeks ago they got somewhere between 9 and 13 inches of rain in less than 3 hours and water was rushing in her front door while it was raining! She is too far from the water's edge to have to worry about flooding, but the rain like that was bizarre!!
Oh my.......your poor mother.
We got detoured yesterday on our way to soccer because the railroad bed had been washed out onto the road from the rain on thursday afternoon.....rain I might add that had not been in the forecast.
Gardening-done
Clean chaise lounge-done
All the indoor cleaning I intensely hate-still to do
blech!
Trying to get ahead in case BellSouth strikes tonite. If so, I'll be working 7-7, 7 days a week.
I'm still cleaning inside, and actually just sat down for a break. Hubby's outside with the lawn mower.
Haven't gotten out to the garden yet...........
Hopefully there won't be a strike.
CG is getting ready to go do his yard work. I'm headed to attack the bathrooms.
I'm just about finished with my attack on the kitchen........then I'm heading for the garden. the bathroom can wait!!!
Bathroom done. (CG graciously volunteered to do his, no wonder I love him!) Kitchen done, well, I haven't mopped. I am boiling chicken breasts to make a yummy Southwestern Chicken Chowder for dinner. Except for prep of the chowder later on, my work is done. I'm wearing my pager and anxiously awaiting news of the impending strike.
got my hair done by the new person in the new place today and i really like it. sometimes it takes someone new to see you a bit differently. she did highlights around the face which i had not had, and i think it looks great!
I'm J...post pic!
I'll let yunz know about the strike later this evening. Deadline is midnight EST. If they strike, they are dumber than I think they are.
