In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
cajole \kuh-JOAL\ verb
1. to persuade with flattery or gentle urging especially in the face of reluctance; coax *
2. to deceive with soothing words or false promises
Example sentence:
Peter's friends cajoled him into coming to the party even though he was not in the mood to go.
Etymology: Did you know?
You might not think to associate "cajole" with "cage," but it's likely that these two words are connected. Researchers have made an association between the prattle of a caged bird and the persistent wheedling of a person attempting to get something out of someone else. "Cajole" comes from a French verb, "cajoler," which now means "coax" but at one time meant "to chatter like a jay." Some etymologists theorize that "cajoler" is from "gaiole," an Old North French word meaning "birdcage" and ancestor to our word "jail." "Gaiole" derives from a Late Latin word, "caveola," which means "little cage" and is the diminutive of the Latin "cavea" ("cage" or "cavity"). Our word "cage" derives from this noun, and "cave" is a close relative.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Practice makes perfect.....post on....
LOL!!!!!!!
I'm so notorious for killing threads that it is not even funny anymore!
Right now I'm trying to catch up on some news - I've been without all day............for the first time all week I did not check the weather this morning and so was hit completely by surprise with the rain today.......and it's raining again......YIKES
the corn sounds FANTASTIC, gabz! my dad grew corn when i was pretty young and my mom did freeze it. yummy!
If I can ever get back out there to pick the rest..........
I have 2 acres of swamp right now.........
looks like yesterday at the water park was the absolute bestday of the week we have been here. Today it has rained off and on all day. yesterday was gorgeous. we leave for home tomorrow. i am about ready to go.
Sounds like you've had an all around better week than I've had, in spite of the rain. I'm anxiously awaiting a cold front which will drop nighttime temps down into the 50s. And I have Reggae to Riches by China Glaze on my nails. It's pretty much a little girl color. Pinky purple.
Oooooo, it just thundered. The front is almost here!!!!
WOOOOO-HOOOOOOO....later.......
Aren't vacations just so much fun?????
Hubby was on vacation all of last week - the only decent day we had was the day we went to the FReep in Norfolk.........20+ inches of rain in 10 days is a bit too much even for me.......
the highlight of my week was the trip to my fave stitch shop down here. i love the store. got fun stuff there too. SG, i saw a beautiful yarn shop in the same plaza. had i ever gotten off the ground with my knitting, i probably would have dropped $$$$ there.
The front showed up here early today - but unfortunately it brought more rain before starting to lower the temperature - but that has finally started dropping - I've got doors and windows open and all ACs turned off for the first time in days................
There are no stitch shops anywhere near here. We used to have a couple that I just loved, but Michael's & Hobby Lobby put them out of business. :(
I'm way past due on a dye job, but my husband has a perverse desire to see my natural color. (it is really pretty, but the silvery sprinkling on top irks me!
The thermometer on the back deck was at 100 when I got home, and it is now in the mid 80s. Things are looking up!!
My weather bug is saying 68 here right now.....and it is rather comfortable in the house without the AC on.
Rain squals came through this afternoon ....
Nasty in places (3" in 45 minutes - so that killed traffic east of us), but I had left early to go fix some tables at Ronnie's classroom.
So only mild showers.
Cooler - dry, low humidity, record lows !?!??!?!?!? , on Friday and Saturday predicted.
Well, of course.
But, then again, I've noticed it usually gets hotter inside the less clothes ya wear.
Record lows being called for here as well......I'm so tired of the rain.
You're silly!!!!!!!!
Now I am thinking of scouring the side roads on the way to FL for a yarn shop. I know what'll happen. I'll say ooo, look at that, a yarn shop and the spouse will just floor it. ;)
100+ posts and still in News/Activism
We got a few inches last night and some light rain today. It only got to the 80s today compared to 96 yesterday.
OKAY - the yung'un has been asleep for quite a while and hubby was playig on his puter and I'm on mine - we're watching FNC ---Greta van sistern's show is all about husbands killing their wives (peterson, hacking) and hubby decides it's time to put the new scope on his .22..........
He nearly dropped it when I made that comment - he thought it was really funny.
