Why encourage people to put the energy and compassion and resources into a cat instead of a abandonexd child who needs help?

Be kind and have the cat killed.

Good luck ping!

Our two kitties wouldn't hear of another arrival. I hope you find the little one a safe home.

Check with local vets. Sometimes they have charity cases where you can get the little guy on anti biotics to clear up the common respatory infections. Get to this ASAP...it may take a while to clear up (10 days or so).

Keep it quaranteened until then. 10 days of antibiotics should clear it up. Im in Little Rock, else I would give you several names of vets who would help, and possible homes. Try to find someone that just lost a pet due to illness/age. A new kitten is a good medicine for them.

Good luck.

A quick update on the FeLV+ kitten:

The kitten has gotten a reprieve - I'm having the AFT test run, and should have results by Thursday or Friday. [The first test was a test for the virus antibody. This test will let me know whether or not the kitten actually has the virus, or had it and beat it.]

As it turns out, another kitten apparently from the same litter is being fed by my neighbors, who have managed to find a home for it. They have agreed to ask the person adopting the second kitten whenther she'd be willing to take the first, too - as I understand it, if both kittens are from the same litter, they'll either both have it or both not have it, and can thus be in the same house.

Obviously, this is far from certain, but it buys some time.

Well the bad news is in - the AFT test confirmed that the kitten is FeLV+. The not-so-bad news is that I'm in touch with bestfriends.org, an animal-rescue organization specializing in hard-to-place animals, and they're helping me find her a home. No guarantees, of course, but it's a chance.

I've named the kitten Aimee for adoption purposes; here are some photos of her (the last one may take a while to load, but it's worth it):

What a gorgeous beast. Bump for kitty interferon or something to help the little cat critter.

We love kitties and are looking for a female kitten, but we have a nonvaccinated purebred. Plus, I think Myrtle Beach is in FL?? We are on the other coast. Hope she finds help or tender mercy.

However, if there is a So CA FReeper reading this who has or will have a kitten of any short haired variety, FReepmail me. My middle son is ready for his first pet. (Female only -- we have had spraying problems with males.)

May God help you find a home for the kitten and set your mind at ease, in Jesus' name.

Success! BestFriends.org, a no-kill shelter for hard-to-place animals, has agreed to take Aimee! Now all I need to do is to get her there - I'm in Myrtle Beach, SC; the shelter's in Utah. Any tips? Will sending her by air be a problem?

You, My Fellow Freeper, are the reason my Catholic Confirmation name is Francis.

I applaud your devotion to this animal, and God has a special place in Heaven reserved for you....

There MUST be some group, or organization, or something, or someone, around you, who is willing to take in this animal.

What about an old-folks' home? or an old neighbor, or relative?

I truly wish I could help.

Good news! I found a family for Aimee!

If all goes well, on Saturday Aimee goes to live with a couple in Charlotte, NC. The family in question has a felv+ 10-month old male kitten male, and they've been looking for a buddy for him since April. (Don't worry, both kittens will be neutered.) I spoke to the wife on the phone, and she impressed me as both knowing how to care for cats, and overjoyed to be getting another kitten.

The handoff hasn't happened yet, so keep your fingers crossed, but I'm really looking forward to it. I'm so glad she'll be going to a good home!

Quick Aimee update:

Just talked to the vet's office; Aimee is back on her feet - playing, eating, and pretty much back to normal. The vet wants to wait a couple of days before she goes to her new family, just in case she relapses, but she's out of the woods.

Whew!

Aimee Update: On Saturday at 12 noon, Aimee the kitten joined her new family for the drive back to Charlotte. When she gets there she'll meet TJ, her new family's kitten, who's also FeLV+.

I'm going to miss Aimee - like everyone else who met her, I fell in love with her. She was just as much a snugglebunny when I picked her up at the vet's as when I dropped her off so long ago, and by now all the folks at the vet's office love her too. It breaks my heart to lose her, but I'm glad she'll be going to a wonderful home.

Aimee's new family have promised me pics; I'll post them as soon as I get them.

AIMEE UPDATE!

Aimee went to her new home on Saturday, and is doing just fine. I received this e-mail from her new family:

She is doing absolutely wonderfully! My other cat, JT, has reacted so great to her! He walked up, sniffed her, then pinned her down and gave her a bath! They started playing right away, and I couldn't be happier. She hates to take her meds! But she takes them, and she is not wheezing or feeling down...eating like a horse, and playing like a healthy kitten...

Thank you again for letting us adopt her!

I'm still sorry I couldn't take her myself, but I think this counts as a happy ending.
