My Dragon Fly and Me
If I could be a Dragon Fly and wing my way through the sky I would never be shy just me and my Dragon Fly!
By moonlight we ride the wind chase the comets tail for fun by day we would hide from the sun our fragile wings would come undone
On darkest nights we would use fireflies as our guide we would dip and we would glide through the heavens open wide and scatter diamonds in the night sky my Dragon Fly and I...
And we would wing past our lovers silent in the night... to kiss their face in our flight much to their surprise and delight my Dragon Fly and me in sight...
Such a view do we share away up here in the air of breezes soft through our hair my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Welcome.
We lost that LTC to a promotion to full bird, even though he was already occupying a full colonel postion, and we got a new LTC.. who'd once been the Captain of my unit.
So we're in formation waiting to meet 'the newbie', and in he walks.
All the guys who'd been in the unit when he was Captain go: "Cap'n Balfe?!"
He laughs, makes a mock bow, and starts joking with those he knew.

Nothing
Apropos of nothing, I have nothing to say,
Nothing comes to mind about this word today.
What are you thinking? He was asked, Nothing. He replied.
And thus invented zero. Nothing new for numbers is implied.
Ive been collecting lots of it. It isnt hard to find,
And if you take a portion no one ever seems to mind.
Somewhere inside in my pocket there is a good supply.
And sometimes when I shed a tear theres nothing in my eye.
In my refridgerator, theres even more to see,
Of dietary nothingness, in great variety.
I have low-calory, and zero carbohydrate,
And even empty bottles in a partly filled milk-crate.
The emptiness is rampant in the furnishings in here,
This small apartment seems so drab that nothing gives it cheer.
Nothing should convince you that I always wear a frown,
I wouldnt want to let you think that nothing gets me down.
Nothing like a friendship to disrupt your daily thought,
And nothing of emotion comes to make you more distraught.
Nothing for companionship to while away the hours,
And nothing in the vase that I have set aside for flowers.
Nothing on the telly, and nothing here to read,
Nothing can distract me, so imaginations freed.
Relaxing here this evening, and trying to unwind,
Just sitting here so quietly with nothing on my mind.

Planes
I am the asymmetrical, you the parallel
my slanted side allows for drift
you straight and narrow
maintain and long sight vision
until in the distance the parallels meet
optical illusion
While my slant is reflective of light
attitudes and positions
Do opposites attract in time
after all is said and done
I would not change you
I could not love you any better
than just the way you are....

Has it already been a whole year,
since running into the people here
and meeting, and greeting, and seeing new faces
with so many smiles in so many places?
Why, it's hardly the time that it took to be met,
to be invited to dine where the table is set
welcomed just like family, all of us here,
that's how it's been, in the course of a year!
And now, what can our eyes behold
winging its way like the winged beasts of old,
soaring 'cross moon, and stars and sea,
but the Feather-queen singing of her Dragon-fly, and me!
Her flight pauses little, Her robes in the breeze,
and Her platinum locks make your heart start to seize,
Her soft gentle eyes belie Her heart's fire,
and to take flight with Her is your only desire!
So, take up your pen and your quills, one and all,
and hasten yourselves to The Word-Weavers' Ball,
where poets and bards vie for skaldis' romance,
and we'll spin until dawn in The Poets' Dance!

A year, it was a surprise. Doesn't seem that long ago. My muse better get of her butt and write something!

The Hand That Signed The Paper

The hand that signed the paper felled a city;
Five sovereign fingers taxed the breath,
Doubled the globe of dead and halved a country;
These five kings did a king to death.
The mighty hand leads to a sloping shoulder,
The finger joints are cramped with chalk;
A goose's quill has put an end to murder
That put an end to talk.
The hand that signed the treaty bred a fever,
And famine grew, and locusts came;
Great is the hand the holds dominion over
Man by a scribbled name.
The five kings count the dead but do not soften
The crusted wound nor pat the brow;
A hand rules pity as a hand rules heaven;
Hands have no tears to flow.

Dylan was a powerful poet. I have a book of Dylan Thomas's work.
