~The Dragon Flies' Lair~Thread XIV~
July 23, 2004 | bentfeather and Poets of the Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and I...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

I cut a bunch of roses yesterday,
am enjoying the wonderful fragrance today,
and offering peace in the face of crisis.

KW

A rose in the face of crisis
an artist's dream
surreal events
on a canvas clean

A bunch of roses
pressed under glass
painting a picture
of a romantic past.

One Unspoken Secret

One unspoke secret
years of dreaming
of joy
of desire
of love
whose sorrow
like waves wandering
forgotten shores
yet
hopes for an
empire of paradise
where the rolling land
knows the sea....

Runner

Dawn's chill breath
drawn into my own,
Sweat and the dew
mix upon my brow,

Hitching pains in my chest,
cramping claws upon my legs,

the mind drives me on,
the burning in my limbs
feeding my fires within.

The mile drags on
and my breath is ragged now,
still my legs keep pumping,
my heart hammers thumping,
my mind begins to wander
and the rhythm breaks
with my stride.

With a snap, I wrench myself
back to the focus:
stretch out the stride,
swing the arms wide,
eyes on the line
and the goal.

But time is not my friend this day,
the race is won and lost
and the pain is doubled.

Runner by day
fancy dancer by night's light
trusty and valiant knight in broad light of day
father of the boy all the way
charmer of the ladies of romance
a runner by day
hardened sinew, sweat of brow
stay in shape -you know how
a warrior must be quick to leap
alert to obey all the orders of the day

Runner is a toughened man
but,
a gentle soul by the moon's lesser light.

The running is but
the faster journey -
the slower, more labored
path I must take,

moves in shadows, with
honor in question,
skulking in night's cloak
ghosting through morning fog,
passing unseen in sunlight.

But which is worse:
concealing myself
so unfriendly eyes never meet me?

Or moving through the day,
never being noticed
never being recognized,
by friends?
