Long Island, NY SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It SUCKS! ARGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!

No decent public transportation. Stinking high taxes of all sorts, especially property taxes. High cost of living. Exorbitant utility rates. Government gives monopolies to certain companies (Cablevision, Lilco, etc), thereby preventing competition and lower prices. Need a car to go everywhere and anywhere (which is not a bad thing in itself, a car is quite convenient, but the costs of gas, insurance and occasional repairs are killing me).

Bank account is always empty, and the costs of living here prevent me from getting ahead, saving some money, and replensishing my account. Just when I think I have managed to save a few dollars, along comes another expense that empties it out. Car breaks down, car insurance is due, utility bills are due, etc.

It's not easy being poor in many other states, but in Long Island it's much worse in comparison. It's easier to be poor in say North Carolina than it is here.

All defenders of Long Island, I dont want to hear it: "But, but but Long Island has nice beaches, and and and lots of things to do! Nightclubs, shopping malls, parks, the Hamptons, etc." Blow it out your (expletive deleted), LI defenders. I don't want to hear it. Face it, it SUCKS here and it's getting worse, as if that were still possible.

I can't wait to escape from this fiscal hellhole (I got 5-10 years more on my "sentence" before I can move). If Long Island were a person instead of a geographical location, I'd like to bitchslap it for being the bloodsucking parasite that it is.

Ya'll lisen. I've got news for you 'uns. All that car repair and cost of living stuff is LIFE, and you ain't gonna escape it even back here in the boonies where me and the possums, the coyotes, the wild turkeys, the deer, the squirrels, and the chipmunks live. It IS a quieter life, but unless I want to make a bigger garden, keep a flock of chickens for eggs, hogs for bacon, cattle for beef and a herd of goats, grind my own corn and wheat AND continue cutting the firewood we cut and stack for the winter as usual; we gonna have grocery bills and all other kinds of bills unless we want to drop hospital insurance and a bunch of other stuff that sort of keeps us being responsible, taxpaying citizens of the USA.

What do you do for a living? Do you really think you have no other options but to stay in your situation for 5 to 10 more years? I find that hard to believe!

Janitor. It's not a living, but it pays the bills. Yes, I have no other option for now. (I dont want to go into all the personal details as to why that is my only option for now, but it is)

A Janitor? I thought you were a student or had some technical training under your belt.

I was a student with technical training. But I couldn't get a job in that field. They all were looking for someone with anywhere from 2-10 years experience. No one wanted to take a chance on a new guy with no experience. So, when this job came along, I took it.

STILL terrible. And everything I read about what our politicians are doing up in Albany, I KNOW that the fiscal situation is going to get worse as the years go by. The current politicos are taxing, spending, and borrowing like there's no tomorrow, knowing full well that they wont be around to pay the price. Dropping it in the lap of the guys that replace them.

If you move South or Southwest, one thing we don't need is another Yankee telling us how things should be done. Yankees foul their own nests and flee elsewhere, only to vote for the same stupid liberal ideas that messed up their states of origin. No thanks.

"Unless you are being detained by the state or the feds, and wear orange jumpsuits, you need to move. Life is too short to live someplace you hate. Life is now and you need to find a more congenial place to live.'

But please, do not pick Florida to live! We have more New Yorkers in Florida than we have southerners. None of you know how to drive, you all have a rude accent and pushy personality, and all we hear about is how y'all "did it up north." Midwesterners and fellow southerners are welcome, but we have an immigration problem down here of funny acting northeasterners and non-native hispanics.

Disclaimer: I, also, am not native to Florida. I grew up in Texas and in Michigan (hence my bias towards midwesterners and southerners). However, until I moved to Florida, I always thought that the "pushy, loud, rude, boisterous" New Yorker was just something you see on TV. I had no idea that people really acted like that until I moved to New Port Richey, FL (aka New York Richey, FL).

Hence my point of a "New Youka." To the rest of you in fly over country, they aren't only like this on TV!

THE SOUTH - LIKE IT OR WE'LL KICK YOUR A$$! via email | Jan. 12, 2002 | Unknown

The South......Like it or we will kick your ass!

Don't order filet mignon or pasta primavera at Waffle House. It's just a diner. They serve breakfast 24 hours a day. Let them cook something they know. If you confuse them, they'll kick your ass.

Don't laugh at our Southern names. (Merleen, Bodie, Ovine, Luther, Ray, Tammy Lynn, Darla Beth, Inez, Billy Joe, Sissy, etc.) These people have all been known to kick ass.

Don't order a bottle of pop of a can of soda down here. Down here it's called Coke. Nobody gives a flying damn whether it's Pepsi, RC, Dr. Pepper, 7-Up, or whatever - it's still a Coke. Accept it. Doing otherwise can lead to an ass kicking.

We know out heritage. Most of us are more literate than you (e.g. Welty, Williams, Faulkner). We are also better educated and generally a lot nicer. Don't refer to us as a bunch of hillbillies, or we'll kick your ass.

We have plenty of business sense (e.g. Fred Smith of Fed Ex, Turner Broadcasting, MCI Worldcom, MTV, Netscape). Naturally, we do, sometimes, have small lapses in judgment (e.g. Carter, Edwards, Duke, Barnes). We don't care if you think we are dumb. We can still kick your ass.

Don't laugh at our Civil War monuments. If Lee had listened to Longstreet and flanked Meade at Gettysburg instead of sending Pickett up the middle, you'd be paying taxes to Richmond instead of Washington. If you visit Stone Mountain and complain about the carving, we'll kick your ass.

We are fully aware of how high the humidity is, so shut the hell up, spend your money, and get the hell out of here - or we'll kick your ass.

Don't order wheat toast at Cracker Barrel. Everyone will instantly know that you're from Ohio. Eat your biscuits like God intended. Don't put sugar on your grits, or we'll kick your ass. Don't fake a Southern accent. This will incite a riot, and you will get your ass kicked.

Don't talk about how much better things are at home because we don't give a damn. Many of us have visited hellholes like Detroit, Chicage, L.A., and D.C., and we have the scars to prove it. If you don't like it here, Delta is ready when you are. Take your ass home before it gets kicked.

Yes, we know how to speak proper English. We talk this way because we don't want to sound like you. We don't care if you don't understand what we are saying. All other Southerners understand what we are saying, and that's all that matters. Now, go away, or we'll kick your ass.

Don't complain that the South is dirty and polluted. None of OUR lakes have caught fire like scenic Lake Erie once did. Whine about OUR scenic beauty, and we'll kick your ass all the way back to Boston Harbor.

Don't ridicule our Southern manners. We say "sir" and "ma'am", hold doors open for others, and offer our seats to old folks because such things are expected of civilized people. Behave yourselves around our sweet little gray-haired grandmothers or they'll kick some manners into your ass just like they did ours.

So you think we're quaint or we're losers because most of us like in the countryside? That's because we have enough sense to not live in smelly, crime-infested cesspools like New York or L.A. Make fund of our fresh air, and we'll kick your ass.

Last, but not least, DO NOT DARE to come down here trying to tell us how to cook barbecue. This will get your ass shot off (right after it is kicked). You're lucky we let you come down here at all. Questions our sacred BBQ, and you'll go home in a pine box -minus your ass.

Y'all have a nice day!

To all:

Born and raised on Long Island, left for several years to attend school. Moved back to Long island and Jaw immediately dropped in reaction to the rude pushy attitudes, the crowding , the horror of driving along side nut jobs! The list could go on and on as almost all of my complaints have been covered here already. For the life of me I do not know why the majority of the people up here behave the way they do and it is sickening sometimes. Lets be aware or, allow me to share my thoughts with all of you from other states to which some of us Yankees are heading, there are some very decent good and kind folks up here that are looking to get out as we know. Chances are if we show up in your neck of the woods, and we are not Retired from New York to Florida Transplants, it is because we are nice and we have manners, and we seek similiar people who actually have values and morals intact with high regard for fellow people.

More rant about Long Island, the financial situation is ridiculous and the rude people are worse and just too much to stand anymore espcially after spending some time in the South and South West. I am south bound once and for all again very soon. Looking forward to that fine South Western hospitality and manners that seem non existent on Long Island. Good bye and good riddens to all you knuckle heads up here. I'm sure once all the good folks are gone you will all have a ball trying to impress one another with your fancy cars and attitudes without any of us in your way to remind you of a real, happier, slower, and polite way of living. God Bless ya'll, cause you really do need to find GOD, and good luck, cause you'll need some of that too! Yee Haw and farewell from a native Long Islander.

"For that matter Westchester, Rockland, North Jersey and NYC all suck."

Got that right!!!

Left home (Westchester) in '66, moved to DC/NoVA, then a few more moves around the country (including NYC), and when I had to decide where I really wanted to settle, VA was the answer. Everything except traffic is manageable. Winters aren't so long tho Summers can be wilting, taxes are realistic, job opportunities abound.

No one couldn't pay me enough to move back to the NY/NJ/Ct area.

I remember when we moved from Long Island (I was 4), my Dad extended the middle finger out of his window as we drove down the LIE several times on the way to Pennsylvania.....

Of course, he did the same thing on the way out of Pennsylvania too...

:)
