Dale Earnhardt Jr. was released Monday morning from the University of California-Davis Medical Center, where he stayed overnight after suffering burns in a crash during a practice prior to an American Le Mans Series race at Infineon Raceway on Sunday.
Jade Gurss, who works with Earnhardt Jr. on media relations in the NASCAR Nextel Cup series, said Earnhardt Jr. was returning from California to the Carolinas.
Earnhardt Jr. is expected to be able to race in the Nextel Cup event Sunday at New Hampshire International Speedway.
INDIANAPOLIS -- You can bet four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon will be back in Indianapolis this August, firing all cylinders and lapping the track during the Brickyard 400. And, when he's not on the fast track, you might find him making a pit stop in the local bowling lanes.
The third annual Tropicana Jeff Gordon Bowling Tournament Presented by Village Pantry takes place Thurs., Aug. 5 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at AMF Raceway Lanes at 4503 W. 16th St. in Indianapolis. Proceeds from the event will go to The Jeff Gordon Foundation benefiting Riley Hospital for Children.
Gordon named Indiana's only comprehensive children's hospital one of the designated charities of The Jeff Gordon Foundation in 2001.
"Riley Hospital for Children is privileged to be among the causes Mr. Gordon so generously supports," said Dr. Richard Schreiner, physician-in-chief at Riley Hospital. "Funding from The Jeff Gordon Foundation supports life-saving patient care services and pediatric medical research which benefit thousands of Hoosier children."
A limited number of team sponsorships, ranging from $2,500 to $5,500, are still available. Team sponsors will receive participation opportunities, complimentary photos with Gordon, gift packs and recognition in publicity materials. Opportunities to sponsor prizes and refreshments also are available.
Bowling tournament participants can register, mingle, enjoy hors d'oeuvres and peruse items for a silent auction from 5 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. A brief welcome, celebrity introductions and event guidelines will kick-off the tournament at 6 p.m. An awards ceremony and trick bowling shots performed by renowned professional bowlers will wrap up the evening.
Banner sponsors include DuPont, Chevrolet, Dale Jarrett Foundation, Barnes & Thornburg and The Source International. Indiana media outlets sponsoring the event include WFMS 95.5 and Comcast.
Cool info, Norm. Now can you 'splain how the points change for the 10-race shootout? I still haven't gotten a clear explanation anywhere. Also, what's in it for the guys sitting in 1st, 2nd and 3rd? Seems like the scheme is really unfair to them.
One of the things I most like about the NASCAR community is that they do tremendous work for charity. Now speaking for myself, I'd much rather imagine Jeff doing his other hobby, diving. I don't like bowling much.

Sigh. We'll find out in eight more races. Someone on another forum said it goes up in five-point increments. The leading driver starts with 5 points, then each driver get's 5 more so that the driver in 10th is only 50 points out of the lead. I don't know if that's correct, but the scheme does go something along those lines. Really doesn't seem fair to the teams that have worked so hard to be consistent and win races all year.
I was born and raised on the SF Peninsula, but now live in Solano Co. Gotta root for the "home team."

Besides, from what I've heard from a buddy with contacts, jr. also took a good shock to the head, knocking him loopy for awhile.

DUmmies are saying that Jr's accident may have been orchestrated by Republicans. Apparently, Jr. supported F9/11, so the evil Republicans tried to take him out.
Sigh. I keep reading comments about Junior's remarks regarding F9/11. I never heard or read what he actually said, or who he said it to, or in what context. So it's hard for me to make a judgement about it. Even though I'm a Jeff Gordon fan, I'm not going to be stampeded into thinking badly about Junior without knowing first-hand what he said.
But I sure can make a judgement about the denizens of DU: Between them (however many DUers there are), they haven't got the brain power of a box of rocks.
