Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

We bought a vacation package instead- one week at one of their "5-star resorts". It was five-star gone low-rent. Not worth the money or the free breakfast.

I'm shopping for a cheap dispenser...just getting some ideas at ebay...
Most I see are really fancy...heat your water and such...I just want a plain one.

They chlorinate the water some to kill the bad bugs but chlorine is toxic and you don't want too much of the stuff. That's what the guy told us who was trying to sell us the filter (seriesly, if we could afford it, we'd get it). But he said the chlorine concentration in our drinking water is actually higher than in a standard swimming pool. You just can't smell it because of the volume.

That's why I don't go swimming anymore...they put too much chlorine in the pools. Yes but it's better than kid pee...
When your kids asks you why the "wave pool" at King's Dominion tastes like salt...you just don't answer...

We have a "fancy" one at work. It plugs in, and cools and heats water. It's very handy to have, but if I were to get one at home, I'd probably just want one that dispensed...wouldn't need to do anything else at all.
Does Wal-Mart take back the bottles? Here, they come and pick up the bottles and deliver new ones, but for home, I'm assuming I'd have to figure out where to return 'em to.

been tested clean... You know, out of context, that could lead to all kinds of rumors...

I don't know if the regular Wal-Marts do this, but at the Super Walmarts you can fill your own container.

How about one of those pitchers with filters? Will they screen out your stuff, 2J?

I've used one of those...but it got pretty gross pretty quickly, and the water didn't taste much better than what I get out of the tap. Granted, in 2Js case it might mean the water would be much safer, but...
In my case, though, the main reason I'd want one of those things is because the town water tastes icky.

Good news is he's lovin' the food. That was a major concern, although we knew if'n he got hungry he'd eat.

How does that work? They have a special machine or something?
I'm all but sure we don't have that, but it sounds cool.
And...as I said, there IS a Super Wal-Mart about an hour and a quarter away. It MIGHT be worth my while to go there once a month or so to stock up on things I can't get here...so I don't mind knowin' about 'em...

You know...I see people drawing water from a free-flowing spring down the street from here...wonder if it's cleaner than what we're gettin'? It's free! the owner has it piped out into a stream in his front yard. You just pull over and start filling up.
Wonder where I could have it tested and compared...
Ha...Steve should be able to find that out!

It's just a large tank or bottle and you fill up the containers (they sell their own as well).
BUT, it's not "spring" water. It's filtered water. Still it's cleaner than what comes out of the sink.
