The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Had someone post a very simple peanut butter cookie recipe on another site I'm on. It LOOKS like they'd be pretty low in carbs, but I'm not good at figuring such things. You mix one egg, one cup natural peanut butter, and one cup Splenda. You form them like regular peanut butter cookies (roll in little balls and flatten by crisscrossing the tops with a fork), and bake for about ten minutes at 350. I tried making them last night, as I finally made it over to Wal-Mart to get some bulk Splenda. They're somewhat dry, but not bad. I froze them so they wouldn't be so crumbly...they're good like that.

*Sigh* I don't have any weeding to do. Guess I could always vacuum cat fur.

Oh, and they came out to about 18 little cookies for me. I'm figuring a serving size would be two...but like I said, I'm not sure of the carb counts.

I need to do that, too...

I have these little tiny weeds near (but not directly in with) the tomatoes and zucchini, and I'm having trouble dealing with 'em. They're too small to grasp good, but the ground is getting completely green with them, there are so many. I'm thinking I may just turn over the soil there, and put off the inevitable...

I looooove the natural peanut butter. It's almost dangerous to have around. Luckily even a little bit is pretty satisfying!

Let's see...

Splenda, 1 C= 24g
Peanut butter, 1 C=32g
Egg, 1 lg=.4

So 36.4÷18...whatever that is...

Too early for me to do any more detailed math! LOL

Good morning!

Is that my problem? Probably. I'm clueless...

Only one of the big 'mater plants made it. The one I was worried about is officially not doing well. I should just throw it out...but I'm softhearted.

But the other has lots of green 'maters. And the cherry tomato plant may need staking soon. It's a variety that's extremely short and stocky, but the guy said it MIGHT need staking if it ended up with lots of 'maters on it, and it's getting a little saggy lately.

Morning. I have strep throat. I just hope it shows up on the culture when I go get swabbed this afternoon.

And yes, I went to work anyway. I'll probably feel worse and really want off tomorrow.

56.4 / 18 = approximately 3.13 carbs each.

You use it to scrape the ground (and the weeds) without disturbing the plant too much.

OK, I'll be the first to say it...

You shouldn't be at work! For one thing, if you DO have strep, you're contagious until you get on the meds. And you'll get better faster if you rest. Believe me, you're gonna crash soon...it takes a lot out of you.

Or it did when I had it a few years ago. I think the last time I was THAT sick was when I had appendicitis when I was 13. I was shocked at how bad I felt.

OK. Guess it's time to add another garden tool to my quiver? 'Cause pulling the darn things by hand just isn't working.

Hm...wonder if there are any on sale at the hardware store.

It's probably strep because my sister has it. I'm mostly at work because A. it's quieter here and B. the doctor is two doors down. As soon as I get tested, I'll go home.

I don't think I have to worry about being contagious - the boss is off in his office all day and I don't know if the other guy is coming in yet. If I can't get myself home, Mom will come pick me up.

Soon as the doc opens, I'll call. Wonder if they'd just give me the med, seeing as my sister came in for the same thing yesterday.

I forgot about the doctor being in the same place. OK...that makes more sense, I guess.

But still...take it easy, OK?

When I made 'em, I substituted carob powder for half the Splenda, which I'm assuming makes them higher in carbs. But carob does have fiber, so maybe not?

Hey, that's not too bad!

I won't make them for a while though...I buy that Smuckers natural peanut butter, mainly just for Joshua...it's just so expensive and he loves it so much!

Hey, get this...we keep geting these notices in the mail saying our water failed inspection! Every few days we get these notices!

They say it's not dangerous, but that over time it might cause cancer, liver and kidney problems, central nervous system problems and not to mention, the unmentionable stomach ailments.

Well, we've been getting them for what I would consider "over time" and I have started buying our water and ice. Sigh...

The water in our tub was positively brown...my clothes are starting to look dingy. My white shower curtain looks like it's tea stained.
