The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

It was the same day as the Juw thread started, too, I think!

Heh...the more FR evolves, the more confused people must be when they first start lurking! We have so many words and references that most people just wouldn't get. Kinda like a family, I guess, if a hugh one...

Certs do fluff up a resume nicely. But that said... not very many of my department have certs other then my network engineer. He has a CCIE, but just written, not practical (pretty common, that, the practical test is a real bugger).

I think only one of the group, a new hire, has an MCSE.

If you twisted my arm I'd say that certs don't really matter to me. There are too many people with boot-camp certs that really don't mean much (called "paper MCSE's").

Experience and (drum roll) *writing skills* are the things that make resumes float to the top in my group.

But all that said, you have to make a resume get pulled from the stack for an interview, and certs might just be the thing that does it, all else being equal.

The first couple hundred posts were pretty amusing...but I got bored after that. Still plenty of hangers-on, though.

Hi! I guess it might have looked like that, but it's been stormin here since Monday. This morning we actually woke up to blue skies for a change, so we were happy for that I guess. As ominous as that looks, I don't think the storms caused any real damage today. I didn't see any news reports about trees falling or lightning striking houses like we had on Tuesday. No rain at my house though :-)

Yeah, it takes a while to sort of figure out what's going on. The next seven or eight episodes are going to be a sort of flashback sequence to explain how the brothers got where they were in the episodes you just watched. It all fits together nicely... sigh, I just watched 7 and 8 again. 7 in particular has a lot of things you wouldn't think would happen.

Actually, I've noticed about this anime, they aren't afraid to do things that make the viewers fall out of their chairs in astonishment. Characters turn out to be totally different from what you expect; people you wouldn't think would die, die; there are some truly bizarre twists; and things just keep escalating... frankly I haven't got a clue how it's going to end. Except I don't think Ed's going to get his limbs back.

<nodding>

Someone once told me there are only 10,000 full-on CCIEs in the world. I can't imagine taking that practical! It's like the nerd version of getting beat into the gang.

Well, networking is not where my plans lie, but Mamma always needs a new pedicure, and I figure a few certs will get me ten polished toes.

Here's to testing!

Well, Castle Sparksalot is bereft of Hobbit Hole blades this day.

Msdrby gave hers to a National Gaurdsman last weekend.

This afternoon, my knife, along with my business card and e-mail address started the journey to a Marine squad leader stationed near Bagdad.

I hope they serve their new owners half as well as some of the other knives have. ;-)

Good that it's not as bad underneath as it looks from the edge.

Nice to see you here! How's it going?

I'd bet you could slide through an MCSE with no trouble. I've played with some of the online tests, not seriously, but once you get the hang of the lingo, it isn't hard at all.

Roger on the CCIE's. That is *one* cert that really does mean something. They do *not* give them away, and anybody that passes that practical test can probably also walk on water.

My guy could probably pass it, if he took it. He's really something to watch on a router config or troubleshoot. Though... he's had a little trouble fitting in with the rest of the group because nobody can understand a word he says. Crippling accent and such.

I'll get Harvey's address and send it along with the others. How much did each of the engraved knives that we're sending cost?

The knives are costing us $21.14 each, with engraving (a heck of a deal, if I may say so myself). Postage is quite a bite, unless we send several in one package.

And while contributions are always welcome, the knives will be sent out regardless of payment.

That nasty weather passed through by my office and my house, but these storms move fast so it's a great show and then it's gone.

We had (and continue to have) a drizzle of rain, but little else.

The lightning is way cool to watch.....and unnerving!

OK - We are on our way home now...

And we went through with it..... we got married. :~D

The pastor brought us a six pack of microbrew as a gift and consolation for the papers getting lost. How cool is that?
