Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Why ~did~ you wish her good luck Rose?I think I felt sorry for her. She looked amazed that I would say such a thing.
And I felt guilty, for taking a temporary bad mood out on her.

fercryinoutloud...a perfect FReepin' job! But they don't want ~me~ to have it!

If someone's coming door-to-door, nothing you say can possibly be rude. She was imposing on you, right?Yes, you're right. But I remember what it's like to try to make a cold call sell ... and I let 'em finish their pitch, normally.
I felt guilty, I think, because I was in a bad mood at that moment.
I'm usually the most amiable of people ...

Folk like that don't come to me. I don't even get the JW's any more since I put in the padlock on the gate.

And I felt guilty, for taking a temporary bad mood out on her. Nothing to feel guilty about, Rose.
Imagine if you had walked up to a rabid Democrat's house trying to talk to them about Bush/Cheney. They'd acted much worse and forget about wishing ~you~ luck! You'd be lucky if they didn't slam the door in your face and run back to report what they'd done on DU!
You displayed perfect grace and your typical charm, but stood your ground. In true GRITS fashion. ;-)

Dang, Hair, what does an Access designer/consultant look like? For real, I wanna know. This job I have is becoming untenable, and I want to program again.

Good eeevenin'... finally found the place and got caught up... [sip]
Rose: IMHO you weren't *near* rude enough. Well... maybe rude isn't the right thing, but you were sure to be thought-provoking. [sip]
Or... maybe come back with "oh, you're a liberal? Isn't that cute... I'm with the Republic National Committee, myself... "

The jerk! Why doesn't he hang those sliders when he's playing the Cubs?
That's funny....he never hangs sliders at home.
