The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

So, do you get the one job, or the other job, or neither?

Well, I heard. "At this point they think I am over qualified for the office job, and would be better suited for the project they are bidding on in Olympia with the State, as an Access designer/consultant".

It's really flattering, but the office job would have been now, and the project position is neither sure, nor starting right now.

I would have been happy to be the office manager. Really. They said I'd be alone in the office most of the time, kinda run things the way I like, juggle calls for the project team. Piece of cake.

2J - I'm checking in. ;-)

So Hair, do you think you got the job? I mean the good one (office mgr type). I wish you could get a great paying job and stay working at home.

(Hey Rose - are you done "nattering" on that idea yet? *grin*)

And I am ~totally~ with you on that whole attitude towards work. I want a paycheck and a decent boss. Other than that, I'm just not interested in climbing the corporate ladder.

OH! Which just reminded me of something I saw today. I went to the bank and they had this poster on the wall that said "We're in this together" and the image was the same as the despair.com image for "MEETINGS" that Ramius posted last night. LOL!!!

I ~almost~ said something to the manager, but thought better of it. ;-)

Well, if I get the job as a consultant, you want me to put in a good word for you for the office position? ;~D

Okay, I confess ... I was very bad this afternoon.

As I'm getting out of the car this afternoon, I see this striking young woman walk up the other side of the street. There aren't many pedestrians in this neighborhood, and she drew my eye. She seemed to be reading mail as she walked up the sidewalk of the house across the street; I think I slated her as a grand-daughter of the folks who live there.

I walked in the door, shut it behind me, set down my bag and purse, and walked into the kitchen to get an old water bottle so I could wet down the porch plants. As I wrapped my hand around the bottle, the doorbell rang.

I walk to the door, and it's the striking young woman. I thought I'd left the car door open or something.

She began, in a bright, I-want-to-sell-you-something voice, "I'm with the Democratic National Committee ---"

I held up my hand. "Before you go any further, I'm not interested in anything the Democrats have to say to me."

I startled her. I went on, "I don't mean to be rude, but I don't want to hear it. I used to be a Democrat, but your party left me behind a long time ago."

She looked at my hand --- maybe she thought I was gonna hit her with the bottle or something? "Thank you, but no thank you."

"I'm sorry ..."

"Good luck!" I called after her as she left my porch.

<sigh> Was I mean? Was I rude?

And why did I wish her good luck?

Why didn't you squirt her?

Kerry started running a campaign ad this morning that almost made me puke up my cornflakes.
