Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I hate insurance companies.
Gotta go fire up the grill. Jr. wants burgers tonite...

I think this fan utility will do the trick! It lets you set the threshold for the temps just a bit higher (nothing that would hurt the computer), and also change the fan speed, so I could lower it just enough that it doesn't affect the power to the rest of the computer.
Won't have time to experiment today...but still, that's positive!

Woo-hoo! And who knows, maybe practice will go really well and you'll have time for an episode before bed.
That's really cool, actually, that you can set those things manually.

I use
DVDx to rip DVD files to VCD or SVCD. With VCD you can get about an hour's worth on a CD. SVCD is better quality but you can fit only about a half hour on a CD

Oh, that's pretty cool! Are VCD special disks, or will normal CD-Rs work?
Ugh, just got back from setting up my grandmother's new computer. Spent ten minutes trying to reassure her that yes, all her Yahoo emails will be there when she logs on with the new machine. And that no, I wasn't plugging the USB-keyboard into the hole where the headphones should be. I should be more patient, but it's really hard. She isn't even old!

VCD is a format. CD-R disks should work fine.

Oh yeah...and I use
Neoaudio to convert wav files to mp3. There are complaints about this program installing spyware (I downloaded it several years ago and can't remember whether my version installed a lot of stuff or not) so run Adaware or Spybot afterwards. It does the job.

When I first moved out here I put my movies on CD so I'd have something to watch. My laptop doesn't have a DVD player.

I should be more patient, but it's really hard. She isn't even old!Yeah, but just remember, the VCR was a challenge for lots of folks her age, so they're positively petrified at the thought of a computer.

Hey Jen,
The labels on the cookies go up to 32 but the last episode ends with Al getting ready to fight Wrath. Is that where your episodes end? My family is crying out for more, more! My Missus and the kids really liked it. ;^)
I'll watch the first few episodes tonight while I pack.

Thanks, I did enjoy making it.
Kewl about your #2 son's b-day date as well.

Is there a fourth file on the disk, that starts with "[Spoon]"? That would be episode 32. It's by a different fansub group. Maybe. Only it might be by the same people only with a different name - this is when the series got licensed, and the Keep/Anbu people stopped doing it.
I'm reeeaaally evil, but I've been getting the rest even though they're licensed... I should have two more cds full to send once I move.
I'm really glad they like it! Let me know what you think when you see it!

She's only 66, and technically inept largely by choice. Sigh... told my dad about it and he laughed.
In other news, there was this entertaining bit between bothers today:
Brother 1: Where's your math test?
Brother 2: [Brother 3] tore it up and ate it.

Oh, yeah, and I meant to ask: 30-ish episodes makes about 12 hours of watching... are your kids off school for the summer, I hope? I don't want to be responsible for contributing to the delinquency of a minor!

I just learned how to set the clock on my old VCR just literally a couple of weeks ago, when I was setting up the jedis HomeSat!
Most I knew how to do before that was put a tape in, play it, fast-forward it, rewind it, and pause it.
Now I have 10 weekly classes that I record at different speeds and at all times of the day and night!
As Steve says...you could pat me on the back if my own arm wasn't in the way!
