Eleventh Thread: Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
LOL! BTW, I just looked up the squirrel-eating passage in "The Hobbit":
"The food would not last for ever: it was in fact already beginning to get low. They tried shooting at the squirrels, and they wasted many arrows before they managed to bring one down on the path. But when they roasted it, it proved horrible to taste, and they shot no more squirrels."
"Melissa" is the original opening. "Kesenai Tsumi" is the original close. "Ready Steady Go" is the second opening, and "UNDO" the third. "Motherland" is the third closing.
They do not have the second closing, which is just as well. It really, truly needs artwork to go with it. In context, it's really lovely. There's this beautiful shot of the main character's human and mechanical hands, next to each other...
There's a song, "Brothers", which is just a theme... I think it's the Ed/Al image song, but I'm not really sure. It's quite haunting and I listened to it several times. It's interesting to hear the times when that plays inside the anime... usually illustrating something about the brothers' relationship...
"That whole nonsensical Juw Zot thread you've been playing on that has no purpose other than post count, I would consider spam, even though the posts themselves are not all simple repeaters. :~D"
Hmmm--a giant 7000-post spam? Interesting concept. . .
BTW, that thread also serves the purpose of target practice for trolls. And it does make sense--just not to normal people. . .
I tried a whole bunch of different stuff. I liked a couple of the Final Fantasy tracks, the Urusei Yatsura song was cute, but I think one of my favorites was the "Ready, Steady, Go" from Full Metal Alchemist.
I also was fascinatedly following along with the lyrics. It was mesmerizing.
"That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!"
LOL! That's what my Grandma always says when she declares herself the winner of an argument, so whenever I want to declare myself the winner of an argument with my Mom I say that :)
LOL!
This is true.
It is a celebration of the desecration and vandalisation of a troll's final resting post, and the sharpening of fangs and claw for the next troll.
No, it really doesn't ;~D Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Mmm, yes... apparently "Ready Steady Go" is going to be the only opening used in the American-broadcasted version of FMA. I'm hoping when it comes out on DVD they'll use all the openings.
Did you get a translation of the lyrics? There's a line about "if a map is unreliable, just burn it", that I find amusing. www.animelyrics.com is pretty good though their translations can be spotty.
Apparently in about two weeks, the open/close is changing yet again, so there'll be a fourth pair for us to listen to.... oddly, I don't like "Undo" nearly as much, but there's a line I love - "ano egao wo mo ichido", which means "I want to see that smile again".
Openings and such rarely have anything to do with the anime, but in this case, they work really well!
Oh, yeah, and how on earth can you rhyme "can't hold me back" with "give me good luck"?
"Nope, you're wrong."
Orville:
No, I'm Wright :)
Hmmm--funkle-let--funklet--sounds like a good word to add to the lexicon. . .What is the verb form of "funklet", then?
"It contributes to the degree of funkleness of the whole set, but it itself does not contain more qualities than any normal post would."
Degree of funkleness is an interesting idea (and I guess that could be measured with a funklometer). However, how can the post itself not contain more qualities than a normal post if it contributes to the degree of funkleness? By virtue of participation in the funkle-set doesn't the post become part of a whole rather than merely existing in itself as an individual post? In other words, isn't this just an example of the old saying, don't overlook the funkle for the trees? :)
I'm outta here for my two hour ride home. See you guys later.
Steve is winging his way back to the sand pit. If he returns to Iraq the same way he came he will go to Amsterdam then Kuwait and then military transport to Iraq.
He's due to leave Iraq in late Sept. and then to Turkey for two weeks and then home.
Thanks; I'm downloading "Melissa" now.
"I also was fascinatedly following along with the lyrics. It was mesmerizing."
Yeah, I like doing that, too.
"It is a celebration of the desecration and vandalisation of a troll's final resting post, and the sharpening of fangs and claw for the next troll."
It's also a warning to future trolls--kinda like when Beorn stuck the Great Goblin's head on the fence. . .
All these are much better with the animation. For example, "Ready Steady Go" has a lot of shots of The Heroes running, while the minor characters appear on-screen and show a characterist action (Mustang conjures flames, Hawkeye shoots things, Armstrong flexes...) "Undo", on the other hand, has a lot of fighting. And "Melissa" evokes searching.
I love the combinations. It's like movie trailers, I've always felt they're an art form. This is the same way.
Oh, yeah, and the site for the English-dubbed is http://www.fullmetalalchemist.com/ - not much there yet, but eventually I suppose there'll be time slots and stuff. And the licensing company, Funimation, did a really nice job with the Fruits Basket dvds, so I bet they'll do the same with this.
"No, it really doesn't ;~D Not that there's anything wrong with that."
There's a hidden message if you read the thread backwards. However to do this you need to start from the last post, which hasn't been posted yet, so you need the time-travel device Darksheare and I have.
I am happy with leaving it a mystery.
When he comes home is he coming back to Fort Lewis?
We owe him an omelette at Galloping Gerties. :~D
This is true.
