The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

"Hmmph... someone needs to practice subtitles more."

LOL! I plan to :) I've been reviewing my language tutorials so I can follow it better.

"How comes Scrapped Princess?"

I liked the first episode. Haven't had a chance to watch more yet. I plan to watch some more over the next few days. How's FMA coming?

We're watching a very interesting pilot episode of a series called The 4400 on USA.

"Er, no, wait, I'm sitting in bed with the lights out and I'm going to watch two more episodes of anime (man! They just killed a character I liked!) and probably go to bed early. That's my idea of a nice evening."

Are you feeling any better?

Why the high cost?

Well, each volume averages 300 pages in length. Most graphic novels of that size usually go for $19.95 or low $20s.

Most America comics, you can more or less start at any time, right?

That's mostly true, although some have storylines that run over the course of a couple of years. Which comics were you thinking of getting into?

FMA? Up to episode 25. Have yet to have a lousy episode, or one that failed to make me either laugh or tear up. Loads of action, too. It'll be on tv starting in October, on Cartoon Network. Maybe you should plan to watch it that way.

I hope they come out with dvds soon, though. I want to have it legitimately, and be able to watch it on a larger screen, and I like the goodies they put on dvds.

I don't know yet. One that I can read at the bookstore - my graphic novel budget is pretty much full of manga for the next two years, at least.

Ok, I think my manga is about 200 pages, so it makes sense for it to be a little less. Plus I imagine most American graphic novels are in color? You save there, with manga. Not that that matters with Lone Wolf.

We saw that Sunday. I'm not sure that I want to get into it, since I won't have cable starting two weeks from now, but the first episode was pretty interesting.

Thanks so much for your prayers. As I'd told Ramius early this morning, Mama's death was unexpected but not unwelcome. She's at peace now, and not tormented by her inability to remember things and engage people as she once did. She was a firecracker in her day, and we missed that about her when the Alzheimer's caused her to withdraw.

We had already begun mourning her over the last few years, so that part won't be too bad. I predict a lot more laughter than tears when the family gets together. We'll all be rejoicing that she's home with the Lord, and back with my Daddy who she loved and never really got over losing almost 23 years ago.

I do appreciate all the support y'all have given me. It means so much.

As soon as I talk to my sisters, I'll make the flight reservations. I don't know yet if I'll come home Sunday or Monday, but I'll be here sometime after the weekend!

"Most America comics, you can more or less start at any time, right? There'll be a few months of connected story, and then it goes to a different one, without a huge narratice arc?"

I'll be interested to hear Bear's answer on this. I think it varies with the series. For instance I jumped into Spider-Man at about issue #147, and I'd say you can pick up Spidey's character pretty easy that way because his character is pretty constant, but to follow some of what's going on you have to be aware of certain key events in his history--his origin story, key events in his romantic life, and certain major villains and fights. Much of this was covered in the movies, so the movies are a good base for picking up the series; however they changed some stuff in the movies (for instance having the same stories but substituing Mary Jane in certain scenes that originally involved a previous girlfriend of Peter's) so there will be some discrepancies that might take some time to work through. Now in contrast, I'd say "X-Men" is harder to follow without knowing more about the team's history because there are so many characters and there has been a more linear and complex plot development. So I think it depends. Looking forward to Bear's take on this.

Well, I'm still recovering from jet lag so I don't think I'll be able to finish the show tonite. But it is certainly intriguing so far. We're trying to think what the music reminds us of- other than every other sci-fi soundtrack.

I HOPE we'll be brilliant. We need prayers, though...;-)

You got em Rosie! Even then, I know it will be nerve wracking!

Fooey on the guy who hasn't noticed your weight loss. I noticed it when I saw you in June!! You looked great, and if he can't see that, then he's just blind or he ain't payin attention!

I bought some of those little star stickers to put on the calendar when I actually do 20 min. of exercise or more - walking around town and back, for example. Juvenile...but that's me!

Heh. Maybe I oughta try that! It might help!

"I don't know about the private Christian schools in the Midwest, but Catholic elementary schools here in MA start at $3000 a year and go up from there! High schools start at about $6000 a year."

Seems like when I was growing up it was like $2000 a year--which is partly why my parents sent me to public school, LOL! Actually they sent me to a private school first but the curriculum was all stuff I already knew (my parents were both teachers and taught me reading when I was 2), so they decided to switch me to the public schools' accelerated program instead. But it was also cheaper, LOL! I went to a private college, though, and it was like five times more expensive than the state college.

Oh, cool, I get Cartoon Network--try to remind me when it's going to be on if you remember. Hey speaking of big screens, you just got that big TV right?--I bet that'll be nice watching it on there. I usually watch on my computer, though sometimes I go watch it on the big TV in the other room. What I really wish I had is one of those big-screen TVs--that would rock.

We're fixing to put an addition on to our house and we're going to use the ICFs for the foundation walls instead of the traditional formed concrete! They will create the basement wall, but we'll do the stud walls from there up. SSQ figured we'd save a lot by putting them up ourselves, then having the concrete company come in and pump the concrete into the walls in two pours, one about 5' tall, then go back and fill it all the way up.

The companies say that you get something like an R32 wall, and that will make the basement nice and cozy when we have the radiant heat in the concrete floor down there!!

There are lots of folks building their houses completely out of the ICFs in areas of the country where it's hot most of the time, and you want the most efficiency out of the A/C. That would be the just the ticket for your Mom in AZ!

That's what we're hoping. Please keep us posted on how your installation goes- especially the DIY portion. We'll be looking for sweat-equity opportunities like setting the forms ourselves to keep costs low.

Mm, yes, I am pretty sure it's October. You'll probably be happier that way, though I think the Japanese fits the show better. But I'm just weird. The weird thing about this show is, all books and stuff in it are written in English, but it's just filler; you'll see what's supposed to be a letter but it's paragraphs of stuff from, say, science textbooks. I don't know why. It's just weird.

Ah, good, a new opening and closing song, though I like the very first ending best of all the songs they've had so far.
