I'm back from the beach. What a blast we had! We had 4 houses for 5 days/4 nights. 24 family members came. The main gathering house had a long wharf out over the water with a big pavilion at the end. The children fished, crabbed, went tubing & boogey-boarding, and--naturally--stayed in the water the entire time. (I spent a lot of time in the swing on the wharf sipping my vodka tonic. Hey, it was hot!)

On Saturday we took the boats down to Pensacola for the Blue Angels show. The two boats we brought didn't have much cover, so we rented a pontoon boat with a 2nd level for shade...and a big slide off the top tier. The kids were ecstatic, hardly watched the show for sliding.

It was tons of fun and everyone got along great. But it's alway nice to get home, too. I've spent some time getting caught up and was particularly taken with the picture of Kerry's daughters...bless their little hearts.

Just great!

The beaches of Pensacola are some of the very finest on this continent.

Glad that you're safely home.

Cheers.

Let the pandering continue:

BOSTON, July 12 -- Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) appealed to some of his party's core constituencies in his hometown Monday, chiding President Bush at a breakfast for black and Hispanic voters for skipping a gathering of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in Philadelphia this week and telling several hundred women at a fundraising luncheon that he shares the values that are central to their lives.

In Roxbury, a Boston neighborhood with a large minority population, Kerry, told some 40 local politicians and activists that he "will be a president who meets . . . with the NAACP." ....

Kerry also cited "the value of how you take the nation to war." The Democrat, who voted for a 2002 congressional resolution that authorized the invasion of Iraq and opposed a bill last October that allocated $87 billion towards U.S. efforts in that country, said that he was "proud" of voting against the funding because "the policy had to be changed."

"We needed other countries involved," said Kerry, who also accused the administration from inadequately equipping U.S. troops before the war with gear like body armor. [Um, Effin, maybe you should have voted for the $87 million, then] "We needed to reach out to our allies. We needed to put other boots on the ground," he said. [And Tony Blair asks, 'what are we, chopped liver?'] ... Wash ComPost

It's true!! God has a sense of humor. How else do we explain these Pubbie photographers who have been assigned to snap photos of Kerry.

In my heart, I know they're ours. No self respecting Democrat would turn in photos like that of their own candidate.

Perhaps the photo symbolizes the way the Dems objectify and demean women. Or something.

Speaking of something inexplicable:

Teresa Heinz Kerry surprised and worried some of the 1,000 guests at Friday morning's Women for Kerry breakfast when she looked out at the crowd and said, "We had better get you women some birth control, there are so many of you here!" (PageSix)

Teresa reminds me of my friend with serious bipolar disorder (around the time she went into the psych ward).

Dammit, woman, will you please stand next to me, and stop standing behind me making faces while I talk?!

Nice of her employer to give her time off from her pressing duties to accompany/chaperone dear ol' dad:

Chels still has frizzy hair, she is just hiding it by pulling it back. She looks good though.

Teresa Heinz is pathetic. Carl Cameron said that she usually talks about herself when introducing her hubby and yesterday she even said something to the likes of We have been married nine years but I still don't know him...I think the campaign put out that she was "outspoken" and even told her she was too "outspoken" but in reality outspoken=nuts and overmedicated.

Pop Quiz time; Which couple below looks like they actually enjoy touching each other?

Teresa always looks like she's afraid of Effin's cooties when he tries to smooch her or hold her hand. Maybe she's heard the rumors about his, ahem, wandering eye (although she previously indicated she'd execute him forthwith if he were unfaithful, a concept she should have shared with Hillary).

Teresa is so STRANGE. When asked why the song "johnny b good" was played last week at the rallies, she said something like it is a warning for the Johnnies to be good cauz she and Elizabeth were watching them...

Barbara hits the trail with Dad today and he sure looks happy about it...Cokie Roberts must be sad though...she predicted that Jenna and Barb would hit the campaign trail with bare mid-drifts....

To: Iowa Granny; *The GUILD

He almost didn't see the old lady, stranded on the side of the road, but

even in the dim light of day, he could see she needed help. So he

pulled up in front of her Mercedes and got out. His Pontiac was still

sputtering when he approached her.

Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped

to

help for the last hour or so .. was he going to hurt her? He didn't

look

safe; he looked poor and hungry.

He could see that she was frightened, standing out there in the cold.

He

knew how she felt. It was that chill which only fear can put in you.

He said, "I'm here to help you, ma'am. Why don't you wait in the car

where it's warm? By the way, my name is Bryan Anderson."

Well, all she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad

enough. Bryan crawled under the car looking for a place to put the

jack, skinning his knuckles a time or two. Soon he was able to change

the tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands hurt.

As he was tightening up the lug nuts, she rolled down the window and

began

to talk to him. She told him that she was from St. Louis and was

only

just passing through. She couldn't thank him enough for coming to her

aid.

Bryan just smiled as he closed her trunk. The lady asked how much she

owed him. Any amount would have been all right with her. She already

imagined all the awful things that could have happened had he not

stopped. Bryan never thought twice about being paid. This was not a

job to him. This was helping someone in need, and God knows there were

plenty who had given him a hand in the past. He had lived his whole

life that way, and it never occurred to him to act any other way.

He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she

saw someone who needed help, she could give that person the assistance

they needed, and Bryan added, "And think of me."

He waited until she started her car and drove off. It had been a cold

and depressing day, but he felt good as he headed for home disappearing

into the twilight.

A few miles down the road the lady saw a small cafe. She went in to

grab a bite to eat, and take the chill off before she made the last leg

of her trip home. It was a dingy looking restaurant. Outside were two

old gas pumps. The whole scene was unfamiliar to her. The waitress

came over and brought a clean towel to wipe her wet hair. she had a

sweet smile, one that even being on her feet for the whole day couldn't

erase. The lady noticed the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant,

but she never let the strain and aches change her attitude. The old

lady wondered how someone who had so little could be so giving to a

stranger. Then she remembered Bryan.

After the lady finished her meal, she paid with a hundred dollar bill.

The waitress quickly went to get change for her hundred dollar bill, but

the old lady had slipped right out the door. She was gone by the time

the waitress came back. The waitress wondered where the lady could be.

Then she noticed something written on the napkin. There were tears in

her eyes when she read what the lady wrote: "You don't owe me anything.

I have been there too. Somebody once helped me out, the way I'm

helping you. If you really want to pay me back, here is what you do: Do

not let this chain of love end with you."

Under the napkin were four more $100 bills.

Well, there were tables to clear, sugar bowls to fill, and people to

serve, but the waitress made it through another day. That night when

she got home from work and climbed into bed, she was thinking about the

money and what the lady had written. How could the lady have known how

much she and her husband needed it? With the baby due next month, it

was going to be hard..

She knew how worried her husband was, and as he lay sleeping next to

her, she gave him a soft kiss and whispered soft and low, "Everything's

gonna be all right. I love you, Bryan Anderson."

yes, stewart's going to the British Open. We didn't catch any tv last wkend, had to rely on periodic cell phone updates from friends. On Sunday morning, however, we had a very nice surprise. On the front page of the local paper, they had a profile of promising local high school athletes...a long article, 3 full pages with lots of pictures. They picked one athlete in each of 4 sports and my niece's son was one of them! He's a very good baseball player going into his senior year. That was nice to wake up to!
