Phoenix police arrested a Phoenix ice cream vendor Tuesday in connection with raping and impregnating a 9-year-old girl he befriended on his sales route, said police Sgt. Randy Force.
Adrian Gonzalez, 24, was arrested at his home at 4621 E. Hubbell St. and booked into Maricopa Countys Madison Street Jail in Phoenix on suspicion of two counts each of kidnapping and sexual misconduct with a minor, with a dangerous crimes against children classification, Force said.
On different occasions Gonzalez drove brown-andwhite vans in the area of 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road, near where the girl lived. Gonzalez befriended the girl and her siblings, and got to know her mother well enough to persuade her to let the girl accompany him on his route, Force said.
Several sexual acts occurred in the van, Force said.
"This subject intimidated the girl into silence by telling her he would kill her siblings and kill her mother if she told," he said.
The possible abuse came to light after the girl complained to a friend of what was later determined to be a pregnancy-related illness. The girl took a home pregnancy test and later informed the police of the rape, Force said. The pregnancy was confirmed by police, Force said.
The rape was reported to have happened in April or May, Force said.
Police fear there could be other victims.
"There could be other children out there that are just too scared to say anything," Force said.
"If precocious puberty is not treated, a child could find herself in the throes of emotions and physical changes more typical of teens, Parks tells WebMD. And ultimately, her bone development -- and adult height -- could be affected. "
"Early puberty leads to early growth, so that a child tends to be tall relative to their peers," Parks says. "These children will complete their growth early, so they wind up taller than peers in first through fourth grades. Then, they stop growing and wind up shorter than you would expect from family background."
This is from WEB MD.
Onset of puberty is usually accompanied by a growth spurt. Onset of menses is sort of the conclusion.
The body has matured, No more growth needed.
The article was about precocious puberty.
I never heard that, but it sounds plausible.
Great. We ought to send him back again -- this time minus all his private parts.
Aha! Thanks for the link! Although the source is somewhat suspect.
<< Sadly, either way, an innocent child is suffering. >>
You have yet to explain why an innocent child dying burned to death, poisoned to death, or torn apart limb from limb while still alive is better than an innocent child suffering pain which *can* be ameliorated.

All the time we've "known" each other, "Daughter" and I have been able to have friendly discussions. I'm not worried.

The 9 year old should be able to do whatever she wants, afterall she was the one who was raped and it's her body. The mother should have no say whatsoever. In fact this whole problem was caused partly due to her deliquent parenting. If she were my mother, the minute she opened her big trap telling me what to do, I would punch her lights out. The only person who would have "regret and guilt nightmares" from this whole ordeal would be my mother because I would've been giving my mother grief about this rape baby the rest of her life, if she forced me to have one. If she made me have a rapist baby at 9 I would never forgive her, cut all ties with her and never speak to her again beginning at 18. The girl should get access to some calm medical professional couselors that will inform her of all her choices, adoption, abortion or keeping it. Too bad she couldn't get the morning after pill but maybe she can have the ru-486 pill, which is the next best thing if there is still time.
It is weird to hear girls having periods this young. I had fully developed boobs and a smokin bod in middle school but didn't get my period until 17. It runs in my family that way thank god. Girls with early onset of menstrual cycles 12 or younger have more lifetime cycles which increases their estrogen exposure and breast cancer risk. Reduce that body fat to very low levels with exercise and a veggie diet. When I had anorexia problem, I was able to completely stop my period whenever I wanted.
Wow, that's EXACTLY what happened to me. Thanks for this information. Puberty began when I was about 7. When I was 9 years old I was 5'2" and taller than my brother. I started menstruating that same year.
And all these years later, I'm STILL 5'2". Darn that precocious puberty!
That's the first time I've ever head of that and it certainly wasn't the case with my own personal experience.
A misogynist to the nth degree.
You're obviously confused. It's you I don't respect.
Good word. I was thinking "knuckledragger".
Look, Protagoras - is this all you do? Just run around bitching at people? Maybe you need the midol, pal.
THANK YOU!!
Good word. I was thinking "knuckledragger".
Actually, I think misogynist means knuckledragger, it just sounds nicer.

I wonder how old that "friend" is? It just seems very unusual to me that a 9 year old child would know enough to get a home pregnancy test.
Here's the picture of the perp:
As far as the father of the 5 year old ... when I was young, it was common knowledge that it was her uncle who had raped her. I've been puzzled over why this fact is omitted nowadays in recounts of the story.
Several years ago I was involved in a project to buy Christmas gifts for the children of prison inmates - we were sent photos & sizes of the kids we were shopping for, and the nine-year-old girl I drew wore a misses' size 16 and looked fully mature.
If this girl was physically mature enough to get pregnant, she's mature enough to carry the child till a c-section would give it a fighting chance. If she got pregnant in April, and it's now July, that's only a couple more months.
