Over the years, many private clubs were established. They were places were wealthy (old wealth, not new) could go and be at ease with others of similar backgrounds. There were luncheon clubs, golf, clubs, professional clubs, yacht clubs, gentlemens' clubs, rowing clubs, card clubs, dinner clubs, town clubs and so on.
Many of these clubs were restricted. They did not permit as members, Jews, blacks, women or certain other categories (Italians, Irish- remember Grace Kelly's brother/father, Poles, Catholics, for example). Some did not permit restricted categories as guests.
Most of these clubs have dropped their restrictions or will not admit that they exist or have established quotas, e.g., no more than X Jewish or black members. There are no known clubs with racial (other than the fully segregated Congressional Black Caucus) or religious restrictions. Clubs that prohibit woman still exist. There is the golf club in Atlanta that the NYT went after. The Cosmopolitan Club in downtown Washington used to prevent women members.
Kerry and his current wife, Teri-Antoinette Heinz Kerry are wealthy enough and arrogant enough that, as elitists, they must now or recently have belonged to one or more restricted clubs.
Republican members of these same clubs are unlikely to come forward, first, because they'd be indicting themselves and, second, elitists simply do not gossip about other elitists that's why they excluded the type of folks who might.
I'm absolutely sure that Kerry is dirty on this point (or was) but have no evidence. Anyone have ideas?
Who cares? And btw, the golf club that does not allow women as members is in Augusta, rather than Atlanta.
The US Senate is all white.
Also he's a member of the democrat senate which has a former Klansman in its membership.
What about Cults?
I just saw this over at James Randi's website....
THE CAPITAL MOONED
The bizarre Korean billionaire and Unification Church founder Reverend Sun Myung Moon, 84, has actually been crowned as "The Messiah" which I'm sure he believes himself to be in the U.S. Capital! Last March 23rd, Moon was declared to be The Messiah as a bipartisan group of members of Congress looked on or participated. The coronation of the billionaire, pro-theocracy newspaper owner was performed with royal robes, a crown, the whole silly works, yet this stupendous, Earth-shaking event seems to have escaped the attention of the media in general! You'd think that the fact it took place, not in a makeshift basement church or at a remote backwoods campsite, but in a Senate office building, might have attracted considerable media frenzy.
Moon has much influence in Washington. He's both a religious leader and a media mogul, owning both the Washington Times newspaper and the wire service United Press International.
