The cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things . . . choke the Word. —Mark 4:19

The weeds will take over and choke out good fruit;
But you can control them, just follow this plan:
Make sure that the seed of God's Word has deep root,
And pull out the weeds just as soon as you can.

To uproot the weeds of anxious care, get down on your knees.

Weed Control

Read: Mark 4:13-20

The cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things . . . choke the Word. —Mark 4:19

Bible In One Year: Esther 9-10; Acts 7:1-21

The Parrotfeather is an attractive aquatic plant that looks like a forest of small fir trees growing on top of the water. In the springtime it produces a blanket of small, white flowers. But it's a noxious weed. It forms a dense mat of vegetation that covers the surface of lakes and ponds, crowding out native plants and destroying fish and wildlife habitat.

Recently I was hiking by a small lake in Washington State that was choked with Parrotfeather plants. It occurred to me that, like that weed, "the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the Word, and it becomes unfruitful," as Jesus taught in Mark 4:13-20.

Jesus was talking about how unbelievers receive the gospel, but His words can apply to us as well. Sometimes when we read God's Word, our minds are taken up with troubles, worries, and fears. The pressure of things to be done today and concerns about tomorrow's decisions are "weeds" that can choke the Word and make it unprofitable.

To control the weeds, we must ask God to quiet our hearts so we can pay attention to Him (Psalm 46:10). When we turn our worries over to God, we'll be free to enjoy His presence and hear what He has to say. —David Roper

The weeds will take over and choke out good fruit;
But you can control them—just follow this plan:
Make sure that the seed of God's Word has deep root,
And pull out the weeds just as soon as you can. —Hess

To uproot the weeds of anxious care, get down on your knees.

An Engineer and His Frog

An engineer was crossing a road one day when a frog called out to him and said, "If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful princess".

He bent over, picked up the frog and put it in his pocket. The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a beautiful princess, I will stay with you for one week."

The engineer took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it and returned it to the pocket.

The frog then cried out, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a princess, I'll stay with you and do ANYTHING you want."

Again the engineer took the frog out, smiled at it and put it back into his pocket.

Finally, the frog asked, "What is the matter? I've told you I'm a beautiful princess, that I'll stay with you for a week and do anything you want. Why won't you kiss me?"

The engineer said, "Look I'm an engineer. I don't have time for a girlfriend, but a talking frog..... now that's cool."

The Princess And Her Frog

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, a beautiful, independent, self-assured princess, happened upon a frog as she sat contemplating ecological issues on the shores of an unpolluted pond in a verdant meadow near her castle.

The frog hopped into the Princess's lap and said,
"Elegant Lady, I was once a handsome Prince, until an evil witch cast a spell upon me. One kiss from you, however, and I will turn back into the dapper, young Prince that I am and then, my sweet, we can marry and setup housekeeping in yon castle with my Mother, where you can prepare my meals, clean my clothes, bear my children, and forever feel grateful and happy doing so."

That night, while dining on lightly sauteed frog legs seasoned in a white wine and onion cream sauce, she chuckled to herself and thought:

"I don't freakin' think so!"

Sauteed Frog Legs

Ingredients:
4 pair frog legs
4 Tbsps butter
1 Tbsp minced garlic
1 Tbsp chopped parsley
1/4 cup fine bread crumbs

Heat butter, garlic, and parsley over medium high heat in sautee pan.
Add frog legs and sautee until tender.
Roll frog legs in fine bread crumbs before serving.

Serves 1

Did I mention the Frogs exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History?

Morning! You always do such a great job fitting your poems to our graphics, Bob! Thanks, Amy for such a fun *Place* on the net.

Sorry I haven't been around much - am just involved with a big project at home and it's really cut into my online time. I still try to scan my two favorite threads every day and do enjoy the posts, graphics, poems, etc!

I think someone mentioned rainbow graphics the other day? I'll try to 'do' some soon if you still want them. :)

Have a fantastic and fun day!
