Thank you all for coming! And for everyone watching and participating from home via that camera, we hope you can enjoy the day ~almost~ as much as being there!
Too much pressure!!!!!
That's what I think...more sterile version of superglue. Worked great, I must say.
I'm glad they found it too. You know, every decent clothing item I had was in there! LOL Not to mention my whistles, including my Hoover, which is worth $55.
mmmmm.... mushrooms...
I think, after the good time I had these past few days....Steve is starting to wish he was more involved with the Hobbit Hole!
he'd be most welcome...
so... when are yuh comin' out to Dogwood Ridge?...
I don't know...and ugh, I'm so exhausted right now to try to think. But I'd like to, maybe in the Fall? So we can camp out and such?
Before it gets too cold.
Well I guess Bay giving Wn that big old kiss helped her a lot to get over her fear.
I just use Elmer's.
ROTFL!! I am in tears here laughing at the description of the Knockwurst surrounded by extruded foam insulation to keep the strewn peas from escaping!!
LOL. I'll have to keep a lookout for that one!
It's something that I didn't think much about until I went to work for the Lab. We have a man on our team with a host of phobias, obsessions, compulsions, quirks, and a long list of savant abilities. He can be very difficult to be around but our team took him on after he proved too much for his previous team leader to handle. He memorizes numbers- zip codes, phone books, license plates, UPC codes. He memorizes the credits of certain shows on TVLand and can recite them by episode number. He can play entire pieces of classical music on the violin after hearing it once. He's amazing. A heck of an analyst, too.
Well, anyway, I only mention it because "idiot savant" is another one of those terms that has outlived it's usefulness. "Idiot" is too casual and too derogatory and he's too marvelous a human being.
I want dinner...
Seriesly, I got home and found parents had left, leaving behind a ham and pineapple dish. Which would be fine except I think I'm allergic to pineapple. So now I've exercised, and cleaned off, and I'm hungry, but we're kind of foodless.
I keep wondering if I should have just ignored that thread. No. That's ignorance and if not ignorance, it's evil, and I had to say something. But I'm not going to reply to the last guy who pinged me. When you don't get it, you don't get it. It's not about me being offended, it's about other people being offensive. Does that make sense?
But that last guy has me angry because he made a comment about some kid he knows who has Down Syndrome and he said "it's a shame". I HATE that reaction. It's not a shame. God gave my brother 47 chromosomes for a reason. I don't know what it is, but to say that my brother would be better if he were 'perfect' or that he's not worth as much as I am is just plain evil.
That's an incredible story about your coworker. I've known people who are mildly like that. Saying there's something wrong with them, is wrong. It's just different.
What made *me* angriest was the dismissive use of "young lady", as though your age discounts the validity of your comments. I really, really hate that.
Thanks. And I thought I'd be recognized as an adult at some point before thirty or so... but I still forget I'm a grown-up now so it didn't bug me so much.
It's nice to know you guys here at the Hole think well of my and my opinions.
Jen, good for you standing up for the right thing. Some people are ignorant and some are evil, but that's their problem, not yours. You gave them an opportunity to hear what you had to say, whether or not they listen is up to them. Sorry to hear it got you angry; hope that doesn't ruin your night too much.
On savants, I've been fascinated with that since reading a book on that a while back. My theory is savants have the same intelligence as everyone else but they just focus it a lot more than most, which is why they can process certain information so efficiently but not others. I've tried to figure out how they're able to do that and whether it's possible for non-savants to learn to do the same thing.

I'm not even going to ask where the thread is because I'll probably say something that'll get me banned if I head over there and someone's talking to Jen like that. . .
Yes, that makes sense.
If I had weighed in, it would have been on the social darwinism/eugenics angle. "Mongoloid" was synonymous with and often an euphemism for "lesser races". The social darwinsits and eugenicists are still with us, whether they recognize it in themselves or not. It's no longer the subject of lectures and scholarly work. Now it's subtle. Jokes about West Virginia, Pennsyltucky, and inbreeding is no different than sneering at the lesser races.
Whoops, those last two words should have been in quotes. I don't want to be accused of being a bigot.
