Word For The Day, Monday June 07, 2004 -- A Tribute to Ronald Reagan
6/7/04 | The Verbivores

Posted on 06/07/2004 4:40:33 AM PDT by NeoCaveman

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

As we all know the 40th President of the United States slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God Saturday June 5th. So feel free to post your pics, stories, etc. about the Gipper.

Today's word is one of many that could be chosen in his honor.

.

intrepid \ (n-trpd) \ adjective
intrepidity or intrepidness \ nouns
intrepidly \ adverb.

Deinition: Resolutely courageous; fearless.

Etymology [Latin intrepidus : in-, not; trepidus, alarmed.]

My example: President Reagan in all of his intrepidness said "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" A few short years later the Berlin Wall was torn down. This memorable line would have never been uttered if President Reagan had listened to his advisors. His uncommon courage caused great things to happen. This courage was a natural extension of his faith in the American people and the Almighty. And to me that is the Reagan legacy.

An early scene in the life of our most intrepid of intrepid reporters:

From USAToday: Reagan won an award in the 1930s as the best baseball broadcaster in the Midwest while at WHO in Des Moines. The prize: a trip to Hollywood.

And somewhat later, after he parlayed that early success...

I lost $5.00 betting that the media would bring up the deficit and Iran/Contra before monday.

Who ever you took the bet with weren't watching ABC, CBS or C-Span..........they had all done it before 7pm on saturday.

There were all kinds of threads about it here on Sat. afternoon/evening

I agree. I wish we'd have the day off. I'd like to spend some time meditating upon his greatness and how he made us safer from nuclear war.

of course I have two days off this week AND three next anyway, but...

The democrat party: decrepit
Their candidate, boring and tepid
And the man they admire
A congenital liar
So different from Ron, the Intrepid

How much time do you have in LA? President Nixon's Library is located in Whittier, not too far from LA. You can hear his famous Checkers' speech. Did I spell "Checkers" correctly? Checkers was the dog.
