In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
As we all know the 40th President of the United States slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God Saturday June 5th. So feel free to post your pics, stories, etc. about the Gipper.
Today's word is one of many that could be chosen in his honor.
.
intrepid \ (n-trpd) \ adjective
intrepidity or intrepidness \ nouns
intrepidly \ adverb.
Deinition: Resolutely courageous; fearless.
Etymology [Latin intrepidus : in-, not; trepidus, alarmed.]
My example: President Reagan in all of his intrepidness said "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" A few short years later the Berlin Wall was torn down. This memorable line would have never been uttered if President Reagan had listened to his advisors. His uncommon courage caused great things to happen. This courage was a natural extension of his faith in the American people and the Almighty. And to me that is the Reagan legacy.
I have noticed Dubya's similarities to Reagan since he was governor here-I would hazard a guess that he has studied on both Reagan and John Kennedy (whose policies he also sometimes mirrors) extensively.
Nice to see our intrepid adventurer, xs, has returned from Ohio.
Me too.
yes, i agree. i haven't seen much, but the hotel didn't have FOX and so it was ESPN, who had some coverage bc of his sports casting, that we ended up seeing on Sat PM and Sunday AM.
: )
i am SOOOOOO excited to do this! i was trying to think of what we could do in our half day there, and Disneyland was not appealing and i was thinking of taking them on a tour of Beverly Hills or something, but this will be so much better and so exciting.
even coverage of the local fishwrap was positive. this is a good thing, I think.
A big smile there. Were you naughty, or nice?
hey marteen! do you have any pix of President Reagan with his cavalier Rex??? i have missed all of this, but xshub said that the coverage has featured them landing via helicopter etc. and that Nancy opens her arms and Rex comes bounding up to her just like my Loosh! they are identical, according to xshub and i am dying to see this!
naughty can BE nice : )
DC is going to be a nuthouse this week. Friday is a federal holiday, according to president bush's edict. i am thinking that i might need to be off on Thursday as well. i would love to see the flag draped coffin at the Capitol, but i don't have the time to stand around waiting for the hours it would require to get in there.
So you were nice and naughty. Good for you. Did you bring us photos, or videos?
oh he is my baby dog's twin!!!!
i have to tell you, although he denies it, i am POSITIVE that xshub warmed towards Lucius, once he heard that President Reagan had had one of the same breed. now that he has seen that they are twins, he is even more warm. but he denies this, vehemently.
what a sweety pie dog!
do you know i forgot to take a single pic the entire time we were there. i will have to rely on xsbro to send me pix of the party : )
Ronald Reagan
Intrepid, he was, and jolly,
Observing, and astute.
The secret of his nature,
Was contentment at the root.
Of course, it wasnt easy,
He had a real rough patch,
He learned to deal with basic things,
Before his dreams could hatch.
He learned to stand up like a man,
However grim the place.
He looked at every bit of life,
A smile upon his face.
He learned the secret early,
The joy there is to see,
Happy happens only if,
You just decide to be.
He started saving lives back then,
He was a strapping lad.
He kept a count inside his head,
His goal? A myriad.
And I would say he reached it,
Reached it, and surpassed.
For who knew then his fragile peace,
Could be the one to last?
Clearly, he could see it,
Of many things foreseen.
The shining lights upon the hill,
Hed glimpsed as just a teen.
His steady course of progress,
Rising as he went,
We only understand it now,
That he is Heaven-sent.
