Word For The Day, Monday June 07, 2004 -- A Tribute to Ronald Reagan
6/7/04 | The Verbivores

Posted on 06/07/2004 4:40:33 AM PDT by NeoCaveman

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

As we all know the 40th President of the United States slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God Saturday June 5th. So feel free to post your pics, stories, etc. about the Gipper.

Today's word is one of many that could be chosen in his honor.

.

intrepid \ (n-trpd) \ adjective
intrepidity or intrepidness \ nouns
intrepidly \ adverb.

Deinition: Resolutely courageous; fearless.

Etymology [Latin intrepidus : in-, not; trepidus, alarmed.]

My example: President Reagan in all of his intrepidness said "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" A few short years later the Berlin Wall was torn down. This memorable line would have never been uttered if President Reagan had listened to his advisors. His uncommon courage caused great things to happen. This courage was a natural extension of his faith in the American people and the Almighty. And to me that is the Reagan legacy.

He and my dad are up there telling God one liners. And God is probably saying to the Gipper, "Why didn't I get you up here sooner?"

May President Ronald W. Reagan rest in peace with a lot of humorous, wonderful folks around him.

But I agree with you Arghie, the sky is not as blue this week. *sigh*

I've told CG to find out. I can't stand to talk to the guy, and he keeps his bride-to-be so doped up she doesn't make sense.

I was thinking, the donkey's eyes should be bulging -- then I looked more closely.

The donkey's eyes ARE bulging....

The reason 17 or 18 is favored for military induction is because kids that age are easy to brainwash, which is the standard procedure in boot camp.

Sleep deprivation, identity merging, et cetera -- it's brainwashing. And it's necessary for military purposes.

Whether it is ultimately good for society is another question. One of the reasons Abraham Lincoln did not like slavery is because HIS age of emancipation from his father was 21. Prior to his 21st birthday, he was his father's slave, even being loaned out for labor to the neighbors.

Presidential libraries are very cool places to visit. We went to George Bush's at Texas A&M when we were there but had to desire to stop in at LBJ's in Austin.

He was the first president I could vote for and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I'm glad he's at peace now.

1952 EISENHOWER!
1956 EISENHOWER!!
1960 Nixon
1964 GOLDWATER!!
1968 Nixon
1972 GOLDWATER write-in
1976 FORD for crying out loud, not that peanut idiot. Are you noticing a trend here? :^)
1980 RONALD THE MAGNIFICENT
1984 RONALD REAGAN AGAIN
1988 Ronald Reagan write-in
1992 Ronald Reagan write-in
1996 Dole
2000 Dubya
2004 Dubya
