Word For The Day, Monday June 07, 2004 -- A Tribute to Ronald Reagan
6/7/04 | The Verbivores

Posted on 06/07/2004 4:40:33 AM PDT by NeoCaveman

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

As we all know the 40th President of the United States slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God Saturday June 5th. So feel free to post your pics, stories, etc. about the Gipper.

Today's word is one of many that could be chosen in his honor.

.

intrepid \ (n-trpd) \ adjective
intrepidity or intrepidness \ nouns
intrepidly \ adverb.

Deinition: Resolutely courageous; fearless.

Etymology [Latin intrepidus : in-, not; trepidus, alarmed.]

My example: President Reagan in all of his intrepidness said "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" A few short years later the Berlin Wall was torn down. This memorable line would have never been uttered if President Reagan had listened to his advisors. His uncommon courage caused great things to happen. This courage was a natural extension of his faith in the American people and the Almighty. And to me that is the Reagan legacy.

fine, but i think 18 is inappropriately young for a drinking age.

Nancy Reagan has just left the funeral home to follow the body of her beloved Ronnie to the Reagan Library.

Older, younger, whatever, but it should be consistent.

That is my point.

-my daughter is twenty and she is way too young to be responsible for herself. Maybe it should be age thirty.

Yes, they did.

According to the Fox reporter out there (I forget who) Nancy said she is very sad, but also is happy because the suffering is over for him.

I've been tearing up all weekend.

i am sure it has been a long hard road for her and sure she is happy to have him finally home. xsSIL who had not bawled at any of her daughter's graduation stuff (whereas I HAD bawled writing out bethany's card!) was crying over the RR stuff.

Ten years is a very long time to watch someone go through that. And, obviously more painful for the one that retains the memories, living with the pain of being erased from your loved ones psyche.....

God Bless Mrs. Reagan.

i do not envy her that. it has to have been horrible for her. for anyone, but given what their love affair was like, even more so.

I don't suppose we have to make a whole sentence for the word today when a picture will do.

Ollie North was just on Linda Vester's show and repeated the story he had told this morning on either F&F or FNLive.....about RR at Camp Lejune for the services for the marines killed in Beirut....about him picking up the little boy who asked him if he could bring his daddy home......I remember crying back then over that.....and I cry each time I hear it repeated.

One thing not mentioned by the lamestream media in all their wailing and whining about not being able to be at Dover Air Force Base to take pictures of the bodies returning from Iraq, is that it is pretty much their own fault because of their behavior when the remains were being returned from Beirut.

I know this because I was a reporter and the behavior made me embarrassed to be wearing a press pass. it was disgusting the way they spoke with/at family members.

"i am just thankful that the bubbaloon was not in power to preside over the Gipper's funeral."

Surely he would have been respectful and serious of demeanor, just as he was for Ron Brown's funeral...
