Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...That none have seen but we alone.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

"As I recall, they had some nice flavors, too. Rocky road and butter pecan, I think."

I Love Rocky Road
Weird Al Yankovic

I hear those ice cream bells and I start to drool
Keep a couple quarts in my locker at school
Yah, but chocolate's gettin' old
Vanilla just leaves me cold

There's just one flavor good enough for me, yah me
Don't gimme no crummy taste spoon
I know what I need

Baby, I love rocky road
So weren't you gonna buy half a gallon, baby
I love rocky road
So have another triple scoop with me, ow

They tell me ice cream junkies are all the same
All the soda jerkers know my name
When their supply is gone
Then I'll be movin' on

But I'll be back on Monday afternoon, you'll see
Another truck load's comin' in for me, all for me
I'm singin'

I love rocky road
So weren't you gonna buy half a gallon, baby
I love rocky road
So have another triple scoop with me, ow

(oh, make it talk)

When I'm all alone, I just grab myself a cone
And if I get fat and loose my teeth that's fine with me
Just lock me in the freezer and throw away the key
Sing it

I love rocky road
So weren't you gonna buy half a gallon, baby
I love rocky road
So have another triple scoop with me

A couple of weeks ago, I told elf-boy that he was goign to spend the night at his godmother's house. He looked at me funny and asked who that was, I told him it was Daisy, (Nathan and Ashlyn's mom), then he looked at me funny and asked me if she lived with the angels. LOL, He thought since she is his GODmother, that she lives with the angels.

In his mind, since God lives with the angels, why wouldn't a godmother live with the angels as well?

Msdrby, was that you who posted the idea of using milk as a soup base instead of water? I passed that on to my Mom and she tried it the other day and reported it turned out really well--she was very happy :)

That's quite amusing! And completely logical.

Can one adopt godparents? My family has a sort of surrogate aunt and uncle, nice childless couple who hangs out with us because they're crazy than we are...

He thought since she is his GODmother, that she lives with the angels.

Well that was a bright deduction on his part!

He us almost 6. I wasn't going to let him see ROTK, but we rented it this last weekend, and he loved it. I was afraid it would be too scary for him, but oh well, he watched it twice.

I think when I was 6 I didn't mind scary stuff as long as the heroes eventually killed it. At that age I liked the Sinbad movies which had some pretty scary monsters, but as long as Sinbad killed them by the end of the movie it was all good.

also accounts for why I don't mind Rankin-Bass and Bakshi as much as some :) For me they're associated with nostalgia from when I first discovered Tolkien.

Mega dittos there!! I remember hearing about the premiere of the RankinBass The Hobbit...we were on our way back from Seguin and I made the family leave early so we could get back in time to catch it on the night it was played!! Made it JUST IN TIME to catch the commercials before the opening scene. I was in heaven.

All because I had been with my mother at a department store, bored out of my mind, and catching a rack of books where the Hobbit stood out, quite apart from the standard romance novels that were packed there. "What's this? The Hobbit? What the heck is a Hobbit?"

It's been a rocky road since!!
