Well, since this is probably right up your ally and since I don't know where to begin to look...I need a radio, 300WM!

My internet connection at home is still wonky, so I'll be brief. You should look for a special-purpose radio for your storm room. Get one of those combo crank-up/solar/AC powered AM/FM radios. I used mine when the power went out for three hours last week during a storm. If you gotta bug out, take that radio with you, along with your bugout kit. There are various brands on the market. Some also have short wave bands.

Some FRS/GMRS radios may have weather bands on them, as do some portables and scanners. I just don't think there's one single device that will do all that you want, especially under $100. But you might get away with two, which also gives you some redundancy.

Ok. I'll keep an eye out. One of those crank ones would be great! Even if it's not a storm alert, I would still have the radio...that's what I need the most...a radio.

I haven't minded as much with the comic book movies. Maybe because the comics themselves have changed so much over the years (it seems every new writer brings a new slant or emphasis to a title), I can more easily accept the changes made for the movies. X-Men 2 for instance, diverges in major ways from the story as portrayed in the comic, but I count it as my favorite comic book movie.

The line goes right through the middle of "Stranger in a Strange Land". Though I'm not sure if "Puppet Masters" came after that, and I like that one.

Well, my parents got home and it turns out my dad didn't follow the movie at all. Oh well. He probably won't read the books, either, too stubborn.

I liked both X-Men movies. I guess I went in with the expectation that they were going to make changes from the comic version, since they'd already had a habit of doing that with the 1990s Spiderman cartoon (where they changed everything to give the characters' origins a genetics emphasis rather than the original "radioactive spider", etc. explanation). The recent Marvel movies have been good enough that the changes haven't bothered me too much--my only major complaint is how they changed Spidey's webshooters from artificial to organic, which I didn't see a good reason for. But everything before X-Men and Spider-Man that Marvel and DC did has tended to bug me because of changes from the comic version. Reb Brown as Captain America. . . :)

Speaking of which, does DC have any major adaptations in the works? Haven't heard much from them lately in that area. Would love to see a Smallville movie.

Puppet Masters (my favorite Heinlein so far) was earlier than Stranger. Stranger was actually earlier than Moon is a Harsh Mistress, though--that's why I was confused about where you were drawing the line, because I thought I remembered you saying it was at Stranger but then I also thought I remembered Rose saying Moon is a Harsh Mistress was good.

Anyway, glad you liked the Potter movie! I'll let you know as I work through the series what I think of the books. Have a good night!

I liked both X-Men movies as well; just for some reason I like 2 better than 1. I liked Spider-Man too, and didn't mind the change in his web-shooters. Having them be organic actually made more sense to me than believing a high-school student whipped up both the web-fluid and the shooters from spare parts in his bedroom (no matter how nerdy he is!) ;)

As for DC, they have a Catwoman movie coming out this summer... starring Halle Berry as Catwoman. Looks missable to me. The only other major upcoming DC movie that I've heard of is a new Batman movie, focussing on Bruce Wayne getting his start as Batman; supposedly the movie was inspired by the Batman: Year One storyline, in tone if not in plot.
