Help! How do I move start menu from side to bottom? (vanity)

Sorry, but I need computer Windows XP help. The start menu got moved (thanks to the first day of school's out boredom, grrr) to the right side of the screen. Yes, I've tried looking everywhere under "help" but no luck. Yes, I've read the whole one page concerning the start menu in the manual. Yes, I have unchecked "lock start menu". Googling only suggests to click and move it to the bottom (duh) but it won't move and it seems others can't make theirs move either. Ok, it does move but only to enlarge it by moving it toward the left or middle of the screen. I can get the little arrow thingie on the left edge and move it all day but that's not getting it to the bottom because I can't get the arrow thingie to come on at the top or bottom of the bar. Can anyone help, please?

Go southwest to the tree then go up. Take the golden egg and open it. Use the stick to open the center then close the egg. Go down to the path and go SouthEast until you get to the grate. Move the leaves and unlock the grate with the key. Turn on the lamp and go down. When the light flickers go NorthWest along the path until you get to the waterfall. Oops, you've been eaten by a Grue.

Congrats on getting it fixed.

One thing I forgot, and nobody else mentioned, is that when "dragging and dropping" the taskbar, you won't actually see it being dragged like you do with icons.

You just continue "dragging" until the cursor is at the bottom of the screen, then the taskbar will "pop" into place.

You might want to try it again in order to not have to do a System Restore next time.

Go to System Restore and restore the PC back to a point in time when all looked ok.

I see that System Restore has been suggested and tried. Good news. Here's a hint:

Before turning over the PC to the kiddies next time...create a restore point and then let them have a ball and you can relax. Then just restore it back when they are done.

LOL! Ah, so you're up late, too. I thought about you a few minutes ago and here you are. Did you have a grand Memorial Day weekend? Oh shucks, da folks is justa funnin' wid me n I'd needed a good knee slapper or two. It's fixed now and the kids are happy that mom's happy so all's right with the world.

I don't usually keep such late hours. I have to have my rest to maintain my youthful look.
And yes I had great Memorial Day I spent it with my Grandson.
Still waiting on ELH to fry.
