Sorry, but I need computer Windows XP help. The start menu got moved (thanks to the first day of school's out boredom, grrr) to the right side of the screen. Yes, I've tried looking everywhere under "help" but no luck. Yes, I've read the whole one page concerning the start menu in the manual. Yes, I have unchecked "lock start menu". Googling only suggests to click and move it to the bottom (duh) but it won't move and it seems others can't make theirs move either. Ok, it does move but only to enlarge it by moving it toward the left or middle of the screen. I can get the little arrow thingie on the left edge and move it all day but that's not getting it to the bottom because I can't get the arrow thingie to come on at the top or bottom of the bar. Can anyone help, please?
Try taking it to the top..... then to the left side and then back to the bottom..... Go counter clockwise and see if that unwinds it..... LOL
I dunno, it didn't work for us.
Your are getting advice from amateurs, and I apologize for their jokes and tricks - funny though they may be.
What pros do is use a magnet...the stronger the better. Slide the magnet over both sides of your CPU. This releases the degronificater that has locked up, and caused your Task Bar to move to the side.
If this is not effective on the first attempt, you may want to take a spray bottle of Windex, and remove the cover of your computer. Perhaps dust has accumulated inside, and needs to be removed to allow some functions move more freely. Spray the Windex generously around the inside of the CPU case. You may immediately notice a difference - from your hard drive and your monitor.
These two techniques are secrets the professionals use but don't share so that they can charge exorbitant parts and labor when you take your 'puter in.
Unlock the taskbar, then click and HOLD on the task bar, then you can drag it to where ever Mr. Gates has determined you may...JFK
Try dragging it to the other side or top.
right click on the bar itself, click to unlock, and move wherever you'd like it, then right click again and lock in place
Windoze seems to store a size setting for each edge of the screen, and if the bar is at some future time dragged back to a given edge, it will resume the size it has last time it was on that edge. When I stretched it on the right and moved it to the bottom, it went back to my normal size. After your last post, I stretched it while on the bottom to half screen height (max size), and it would still move back and forth, no problem. No matter where I moved it, it resumed the size it had last time it was on that particular side of the screen.
Mr. M's games wouldn't work on the 98 so gave it to the kids. I want my 98 back but the kids hit the wrong button on that one too and it's showing some error with 5 options such as 1) Normal, 2)....... something, 3) Safe Mode, 4) something, and 5) Command something. No matter which number you choose it goes to Windows start up and back to the same error. They are now grounded from all computers until..... forever!
Blah, sorry folks, I still can't get the start menu down where it belongs.
I think in XP, you need to use a shovel.
Make sure when you right click on the menu bar you click on an open space, close all your programs and click on an empty spot of the bar and than drag it all the way to the edge part of the screen you want it in.
AFTER THIS IS ALL OVER...YOU ARE JUSTIFIED IN CLICKING ON THE "REPORT ABUSE" LINE JUST BELOW YOUR POSTING!!! :O)

Do a system restore. It'll take 5-10 minutes and will return all the settings to where they were.
ping
Your a genius. Took me 4!
HOLD THE BUTTON DOWN WHEN YOU DRAG IT !
When I hear that I just want to bang my head slowly. Over here, the kid's games don't work on the XP, and the supposedly obsolete 98 does everything.
Woo Hoo! Woo Hoo! Restoring it did the trick. Joe, you've now been granted Mighty All Knowing Computer Wizard status. Thanks so much for your time and effort. The kids send their thanks too since now they're only grounded two weeks short of forever or three days which ever comes first.
Thanks again.
LOL! Ah, so you're up late, too. I thought about you a few minutes ago and here you are. Did you have a grand Memorial Day weekend? Oh shucks, da folks is justa funnin' wid me n I'd needed a good knee slapper or two. It's fixed now and the kids are happy that mom's happy so all's right with the world.
