Jessica Simpson Beats Spears To Daisy Duke Role
Britney Spears's hopes of landing the role of Daisy Duke in the forthcoming movie version of the 'Dukes of Hazzard' have been dashed-after bosses handed it to Jessica Simpson.
While star Spears had expressed interest in playing the sexy character from the '70s TV show, singer Simpson has been chosen as the blonde who will fill the extra short shorts of original Daisy Duke Catherine Bach.
Simpson's manager father Joe, 'She is really excited.' Simpson herself adds, 'I wanna wear those shorts so bad.'
The film about three redneck cousins, two corrupt public officials and a souped up Dodger Charger car, begins production this summer.

I agree that FR is not what it used to be. Your post is but one example.
Free Republic is a lot like TV, you can ignore the threads (like channels) that don't interest you.
I suspect the reason for this movie is to reintroduce the new dodge charger coming out this fall, supposed to be just like the one from the 70's.
I hear the Genr'l Lee will not feature the Confederate Battle Flag on the roof in this movie...
Also, the script-writers went out of the way to have the cousins make friends with some Latinos in East LA. Why were the Dukes in LA anyway?
Daisy's character had that country girl charm - she was could be sweet and charming, but have Enus in a headlock on the ground in a flash. She would rescue her cousins and handle tough situations. Aside from the physical differences, Simpson's persona is too cutesy and clueless - I just can't see her getting dirty, riding in a Jeep, or living on a farm.
Who would you nominate for DaisyDuke 2, wardaddy?
lol, Imangine Jessica in driving school for the role! I hope that instructor has his life insurance paid up..
Good news for the original DOH fans, the DVD is out on 6/1.
Britney would be much better in the role. She would be more believeable and should have black hair, which she does anyway.
Free Republic use to have higher standards for what was posted. The fact is, I can speak out in opposition to trash that belongs in the toilet, bucko-boy and not on a serious political website that promotes conservatism.

My post is right on the money. I suggest you get back to looking at your comic books and leave the serious stuff to us adults.
Daisy Duke always came off as a real down to earth, sensible girl. Jessica Simpson will have to be a great actress to create that image. I got the impression after seeing her interview at the Kentucky Derby that she is little more than an ornament.
I wonder if Britney's off-stage (and on-stage) behavior may have cost her the role.
Rear wheel drive, V8. Not quite the same, but nice.
I dont know if anyone already answered, but I believe the neighboring county sherriff was black.
They should've picked Jessica Lovejoy
Note also, she was NOT one of Hollywood's current crop of anorexic, siliconed walking broomsticks.
That'a a WOMAN!!!
Britney could also do a much better southern accent. My guess is that Jessica is easier to work with (cheaper salary) and doesn't have a lot of demands.
Actually, there were several. There was a black federal agent; there was a black mechanic of Cale Yarborough's; there was a black guy who ran the casino on wheels in that episode; and I think the pilot had a black guy that was friends with Bo and Luke. These are just off the top of my head.
I hate to say it, but your comment indicates to me you didn't watch much of the show.
Bookmarked! Heh heh heh
Covered this story last summer on FR.
Blondes are so overrated. I cannot believe they are going to butcher the legacy of the Dukes of Hazzard with a blonde Daisy Duke.
True blondes are rare in the South. Most women, especially in Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee have coal black or very dark hair.
I love my brunette country bumpkin'.
Is that the measure of a man?
Joe Kennedy vs. Mother Theresa
Madonna vs. Alan Freed
I could go on, but if you trade your dignity for dollars, then you eat well, but surrounded by sycophants.
