Good job!

I will say that the local Borders, here in Miami, always has the conservative books prominently displayed, up front, along with the socialist stuff.

I thought I was the only one that did this (did it today in a Borders in Simi Valley, CA).

You should try shopping at Borders.

I can only speak for their store in Richfield (a middle-class suburb of Minneapolis) but they seem to have their books positioned inna very non-partisan manner.

Hopefully, the other Borders stores operate this way too.

I have to give Barnes and Noble a little credit. They actually carried UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES when I was there.

but it seemed odd that it would be stuck in with the cookbooks.
Must be the whole cooking the books thing.

A company actually asks political questions on their job application??? Sheesh... ask for one, photocopy the darn thing, fill it out, submit it.... then get yourself a good (as in Conservative) lawyer. Then change the policy after you own it!

"You should try shopping at Borders."

That was the other bookstore I couldn't think of. Thanks, Steve. Yep. Borders and Hastings' bookstores are much more balanced when placing them in order for viewing. Both of the stores are more layed back without that elitest snobby appeal that Barnes & Noble has.

Thanks for the ping. I couldn't remember that the other night. I appreciate it.

Chris

If you think about it, the way they do it is smart.

The liberal books are displayed prominantly because liberals will start picketing, screaming and filing lawsuits if they see anything that offends them, so it is smart business to put books for them in the front, with hundreds of copies displayed conspicuously. Let them get in and out of the store and go away before they go into convulsions at the sight of a pro-Bush book (or, God forbid, a Bible!).

Conservatives, meanwhile, are more patient and intelligent. They will actually go LOOK for the materials they want to read, often without even asking for help or calling the ACLU.

It's jes' bidness. Hope you understand.

I have been on read alot of threads concerning this sort of thing. I do not think these people are liars, or even silly and stupid. This sort of thing goes on. Why would you deny it?

Good for you. After seeing the same in my book stores, I am not afraid to move books. One store in our mall had the Gay section sandwiched in between the Christian books and the conservative books. This did not last long. I have also found many Nazi and Hitler books stacked side by side with Bush.

You have "been on read alot of threads", huh?

What sort of thing happens? That some lefty clerks hide conservative books sometimes? Sure, I'm sure it does. Of course, WE have people bragging on here about hiding liberal books in the stores themselves, don't we?

But some sort of conspiracy wherein the owners of every B&N in the nation tell each other, "No, we're not going to sell that book, and we'll lie to every customer and tell them it's the distributor's fault!! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!" No.

In the interest of full disclosure, I used to work at a B&N, also at a B.Daltons. We carried every sort of political book by every author, right and left. Never...not once...was there ever any decision made not to carry a book because of its political content.

The distributor has even admitted it. They didn't anticipate the demand. THAT'S what the book is hard to get. Every clerk I've talked to over the past couple of weeks has said they wished they did have the book so they could sell it.

This whole, "They didn't have the book--BOYCOTT!" mentality is silly.

Don't you get a sense of euphoria from doing that. I love moving books around at B&N. I can still remember moving a Larry Elder book to the top of the pile at the front door rack. Loved every minute of it.

I just have one question. Why do you shop at B&N. Stop abusing yourself. Go online, please.

I never concluded or even suspected there was a conspiracy on the part of the whole chain. The fact that it happens in individual stores, however, does not excuse the chain, and they need to be held responsible for it, and they have been. Probably thanks to alot of personal complaints from the people on the threads and alot of emails from people like me.
I respect the chain, Ms. Keating actually replied to my email. That is more than one can expect from most.
(P.S. have I shown the requisite amount of.....ha.......balls?)

Of course they do.

Bush supporters have JOBS.

And, they actually read.

And, I do not condone anyone hiding liberal books. I am actually in favor of exposing liberalism to the greatest extent possible.

Per Rush, one day we will need the documentation, so after they are gone we can always have examples of what they were like.

Is the chain responsible for suppression of liberal books if FReepers move enough around to cover up and hide lefty books? Read post 135--if this happened and a lefty customer couldn't find a book THEY were looking for, is it an example of suppression, hmm?

Bookstores are in business to sell books. Left or right, if the book will sell, they will sell it.

Yep, you showed the balls. Kudos.

PS, "A lot" is not one word.
