What sort of thing happens? That some lefty clerks hide conservative books sometimes? Sure, I'm sure it does. Of course, WE have people bragging on here about hiding liberal books in the stores themselves, don't we?
But some sort of conspiracy wherein the owners of every B&N in the nation tell each other, "No, we're not going to sell that book, and we'll lie to every customer and tell them it's the distributor's fault!! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!" No.
In the interest of full disclosure, I used to work at a B&N, also at a B.Daltons. We carried every sort of political book by every author, right and left. Never...not once...was there ever any decision made not to carry a book because of its political content.
The distributor has even admitted it. They didn't anticipate the demand. THAT'S what the book is hard to get. Every clerk I've talked to over the past couple of weeks has said they wished they did have the book so they could sell it.
This whole, "They didn't have the book--BOYCOTT!" mentality is silly.
I never concluded or even suspected there was a conspiracy on the part of the whole chain. The fact that it happens in individual stores, however, does not excuse the chain, and they need to be held responsible for it, and they have been. Probably thanks to alot of personal complaints from the people on the threads and alot of emails from people like me.
I respect the chain, Ms. Keating actually replied to my email. That is more than one can expect from most.
(P.S. have I shown the requisite amount of.....ha.......balls?)
And, I do not condone anyone hiding liberal books. I am actually in favor of exposing liberalism to the greatest extent possible.
Per Rush, one day we will need the documentation, so after they are gone we can always have examples of what they were like.
So....thats what the book is hard to get....HUH?
I stopped at the grocery store on the way home, and there on display was the book. I never would have thought Krogers would have it and the others not.
