Gallbladder

Posted on 05/17/2004 4:45:43 PM PDT by kathy43

Hi

The past few days I have been having pretty severe abdominal pains on my upper right side, right near my ribcage. The pain worsens after meals. I have a feeling it is my gallbladder but i am not positve. Does this sound like it is? also can anyone share there experience with me?

Thank You

kathy

I would be happy to share, but I don't think my experience with hemorrhoid surgery would be helpful.

on FR there used to be a sad, humble polish guy whose daughter had a 102° fever and wife was run over by a bicycle that suffered the same symptoms you do. We all sent him money to help pay for the surgery. He's much better now, living in Aruba.Hope it goes well for you, too.

Oh, and welcome to FR.

Drink a quart of milk of magnesia. You'll feel better in no time.

Yes, kathy43, that sounds like gall bladder disease. The sharp pains are from stones getting stuck in the bile ducts as your gall bladder and/or liver try to send bile down in response to a meal. If the stones are getting lodged in the common duct -- after the liver duct and the gall bladder duct join, before going to the stomach -- this can cause severe pressure on your liver, and cause bile to back up into your bloodstream, giving you jaundice. Get the evil organ plucked out sooner rather than later -- it'll only get worse.

Overemphasis on that "standard diagnosis" profile is what caused me spend my entire junior high, high school, and part of college years being very sick. An adolescent/teen dancer/gymnast who weighs under 110 pounds just doesn't get diagnosed, no matter how many times she shows unmistakeable symptoms. So instead of the gall bladder removal I desperately needed, I got years of patronizing doctors telling me "your tummy aches because your parents are fighting" and similar garbage. I had to turn a fearsome shade of yellow, from bile backing up into my bloodstream, before they finally had to admit the problem wasn't in my head.

If these symptoms continue, you need to get an appointment with a gastroenterologist. Another possibility in addition to the gall bladder is the pancreas.
Nothing worse than a cranky panc!

I had the same experience as a 22 year old house framer. By the time I was admitted to the hospital, my liver had shut down. It took 12 hours of surgery to fix it.

I'm not feeling well... what should I do?

Call a doctor? NO!

Sign into FR and ask the users if I'm sick? YES!

ZOT!
