Bikini body 'better than pay rise'

Nearly one in five British women would sacrifice a pay rise or promotion for a bikini body they they could show off on the beach, a survey claims.

The survey shows how ambivalent women feel about wearing a bikini, as many of those interviewed said they found it as stressful as meeting their partner's parents for the first time.

And 45 per cent said they thought their partners looked at foreign women on the beach because they have better bodies.

The survey, carried out on behalf of Slim Fast, found that, while there were 19 per cent who would sacrifice a pay rise, 21 per cent would rather sing karaoke in front of 100 strangers than bare all.

And 27 per cent would rather give a speech at a wedding or ask a stranger out on a date.

Of the foreign nationalities considered to be a threat, Italian women were feared the most.

Some 27 per cent of those interviewed said thought British men would stare at them because of their bodies.

But Swedish women were not far behind, with 20 per cent of the survey's respondents fearing them.

I had no idea that people went to the U.K. - to visit the beach. Also, I'm reminded of an old stand-up comedy routine that Billy Connolly performed (on HBO?). It pre-dated the Seinfeld "shrinkage" episode, I'm certain.
