My Dragon Fly and Me
If I could be a Dragon Fly and wing my way through the sky I would never be shy just me and my Dragon Fly!
By moonlight we ride the wind chase the comets tail for fun by day we would hide from the sun our fragile wings would come undone
On darkest nights we would use fireflies as our guide we would dip and we would glide through the heavens open wide and scatter diamonds in the night sky my Dragon Fly and I...
And we would wing past our lovers silent in the night... to kiss their face in our flight much to their surprise and delight my Dragon Fly and me in sight...
Such a view do we share away up here in the air of breezes soft through our hair my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

We used my Bright Yellow Ford truck for a nice Redneck effect. The cooler was in the extended cab area behind the driver's seat.

Standing At The Door
Standing at the door,
dog tags in hand.
About to tell
a loved one about
their loss.
Thinking of how
it could have been me.
Wondering how they
will react.
Reaching up
with heavy hand,
I knock on the door.
Waiting nervously,
I prepare myself
for what's to come.
Wishing anxiously
someone else had come.
Wanting desperately
not to have to
deliver such news.
He gave his life
for this country
that he loved.
Dying so suddenly
without warning.
He never got to say
"Goodbye, my love."
Sadly thinking
how to treat
the wounds
I'm sure to inflict.
Praying for peace
and getting only
a saddened heart.
The only tribute
I can give
is this poem.
His memory
will never fade
from my mind.
His lust
for life
never replaced.
His joy
in his family
and his friends,
never forgotten.
He will
live on
'till the end of time.
He is
one of us,
the unforgotten vet.

I was both a Boy Scout and in the USAF SAC. I am always prepared.

Backyard sans tree and storm tossed branches.
That was weird yesterday, we were supposed to get the same storm that hit you up north of me, but nothing happened.
I don't have to worry about the furniture attacking, do I?

Morning Darksheare!
The storm yesterday was heavy rain but no wind. I don't think you have to worry about flying trees or chairs!

Good morning, all! Happy Friday!

Sarah Teasdale
My soul lives in my body's house,
And you have both the house and her --
But sometimes she is less your own
Than a wild, gay adventurer;
A restless and an eager wraith,
How can I tell what she will do --
Oh, I am sure of my body's faith,
But what if my soul broke faith with you?

Good morning, Star!
Wonderful Silverstein selection today! I like writing that kind of poetry whem my muse is working right. I haven't been around long enough to claim a "Best of Colonel" collection, but I did enjoy writing this one:
Sewer Trouble
I think that I shall never smell
An odor, rank as that which fell
Into my nostrils early on
A Saturday, my free time gone.
It wasn't like I had the chance
To do home things which would enhance
And clamor for attention then,
To shovel snow and clean my den.
Mop in hand, and bucket trailing
I trudged downstairs and started flailing
Soaking up and wringing out
And hoping nothing else would spout.
The sewer man arrived with glee
"A weekend callout", cackled he.
In no time flat, a motor whirring
Was snaking down, tree roots disturbing.
The glop that surfaced had a sheen
And earthy scent that made me green.
As I looked at my basement miter,
He said, "Let's make your wallet lighter."
One hundred thirty dollars passed
From hand to hand, and then at last
I turned back to the chore at hand
My trusty mop at my command.
The carpet, soaked, lay just beside
Darned near rolled up my dog inside
My daughter stomped into the puddle
She wore no shoes, another muddle.
But then at last, the job was done
My legs and back ache now as one
Kids can be cleaned and floors can dry
But sewer trouble makes me cry.
