Never watched the cr*p show, not for a millisecond.
My daughter would come home from school and tell me how her teachers and classmates would discuss the previous night's episode of 'Friends' -- and how 'sick' the discussions were.
Disgusting that the mainstream media are hyping this garbage at the top of their headline news -- and spending nary a moment on the U.N. oil-for-fraud scandal or the Swift Boat Veterans against J. F'n Kerry.
The media are the modern purveyors of Bread and Circuses. I pray that it won't work.

You got that right. These people were supposed to be in their early late 20s and early 30s and acted like children. Anniston is nothing but a hairdo, Ross was a total "ball-ess wonder"; the Joey character made a Special Olympian look like a genius; Chandler had too many issues to mention. Why did it take so long for this show to end?

I tried watching it a couple times but never thought it was all that funny. Some of the contemporary sitcoms which always produced out loud belly laughs included Seinfeld (of course), Everybody Loves Raymond (Peter Boyle can say "hello" and make me laugh), and the Drew Carey Show (it's a Cleveland thing). But I could never quite grasp what people found entertaining about Friends. Each to their own and maybe I'll change my opinion when it's on in syndication 24/7. But then again, maybe not.

I saw an episode once in the first season and thought the monkey was the best character. That for years significant numbers of people actually watched this mindless drivel is hard to comprehend. Unfortunately the reruns will be with us for decades.
To: Liberatio
The entire sitcom genre is pretty much over - Frazier ends next week, and Everybody With Blue Hair Loves Raymond is on its last legs at SeeBS. ABC - apparently - hasn't gotten the message, with its sitcom-heavy lineup lagging badly in turd place amongst the 3 fraudcast networks.
Over the years, sitcoms have pretty much used up every formula there is, and all the good - really good - writers have either moved on or died off. The sitcom writing pool that's left is turning out sour dreck.
The ratings winners these days are some well-crafted dramas - CSI (the original), 24 (on Fox), inexpensive-to-produce newsmags like Dateline NBC, and reality series like ABC's The Bachelor, Extreme Makeover, SeeBS's Survivor and the like. MakeoverTV (Trading Spaces started it) is huge, because it plays on the natural tendency of people to never be satisfied with the way they look of the way their life goes. Things can always be better, and the MakeoverTV shows deliver that.

John Stewart said it better than I could, "I never watched that show - and I'm still sick of it."

Unlike most of the posters on this thread I am sad that Friends is ending production.
While not highbrow entertainment, it did have many very funny moments and likable if weird characters. And overall, despite a few weak years in the middle, it ended on a high note.
Ross and Rachel found their lobsters, 'nuff said.

Actually, there will be a spin-off. Joey gets his own show next season, called "Joey". He moves to Hollywood.

One time. Oh, sure, I mean I'd catch a sec or two while channel surfing. But the characters always seemed to be pissing and moaning about something.

They need to have a show about a bunch of 40somethings whining about their lives. Most of them are slightly busy, as are the 50- and 60- somethings.

"Joey". He moves to Hollywood."
Ummm...let's see, He's a actor and he's out of work and owes back payments on his car. Sees the repo guys and stashes his car in the garage of a forgotten movie star out on Sunset Boulevard and then he meets the star's butler who looks alot like an aged David Schwimmer and is then introduced to the old gal played by Barbara Streisand and then we are treated to endless forced sex scenes and they all ultimately contract HIV from intimate contact with a chimpanzee that escapes from nearby Neverland Ranch and ....

Most of them are slightly busy, as are the 50- and 60- somethings.Actually, you can't base this silly sitcom on the lives of most of the hardworking younger generation. The ones in my family of that age group are holding down jobs, and some taking post grad classes at night.
This show was just a piece of fluff, kind of entertaining at first. It turned me off, and I turned it off, when they brought on the lesbian couple who wouldn't let Ross have anything to do with his own child. That and the constant sex talk. I'm no prude, but that gets very old after awhile. No originality.

I knew nothing about it until last night; my 20something daughter wanted me to tape it. I've never watched it. Based on the comments, I haven't missed anything. :^)

many years ago, I watched the show from time to time. I often asked why people who, according to the storyline had jobs, seemed to spend much of their day in a coffee house.

Other than the physical appearance of Jennifer Anniston ...
Frankly I'm tired of seeing her on every magazine cover, at the local grocery store check out line, airport magazine stands, same pose, same look, it seems since forever. Good bye ....
I can't recall the TV show but they had a camera angle that revealed that Jennifer Aniston is short, emaciated, big headed, and as ugly as a wet gopher when she turned away from "her good side." Kinda reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when Jerry dated a girl that looked beautiful from one angle and hideous from another.
IMO, Seinfeld, not Friends, is profoundly yet sublimely humorous. SERENITY NOW!

Never watched it, not even for 1 second.
So I'm neither sad nor glad, except glad for the fact that a certain amount of noise has been stilled.
Now, what do we do about rap? And thousand watt amplifiers in cars that go by with windows open playing said rap music and shaking the parking lots?
