I'm 31 and want to assist the troops in Iraq in any way I can. Too old for enlistment which would result in anything but JAG service. Does anyone have any advice on how I can get over there and help, in any way. I'm BA, JD, good shape and very handy w/ arms (Western PA born and bred, so thats a given). Wife and 2 day old baby girl. I'll take the risk, I simply cannot sit by any longer. I must contribute.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

or maybe I could just sit here any post my opinions day after day. tell me, does it help more if I post "GO Dubya" or "John F'n Kerry"Neither really does much for me.
How about if you were to post "I'm ready for my closeup, Mr. DeMille?"
To: RedBloodedAmerican
thats just it, I have. "You can be an officer in the JAG Corps." "Will I sit behind a desk?" "Almost certainly."
I am just truly concerned about whats going on. I'd like to live in a world where my daughter can go to a Steelers game w/o fear of carbombs, 'thrax, planes, ect. And I just want to do my part. That may sound silly, and niaeve, but I'd suggest that the day is coming when we may all be asked to think that way.

gee hell, nice post. you clearly dont sit at a computer all day.

Honestly, there is some reason to be skeptical recently.
But, there ARE stateside positions open in uniform that will support the troops.
Though in my area MP slots are closed at the moment due to the recent reshuffling of artillery types into MP training for Iraq.
The availability of open slots varies from place to place.
RBA is right, if you really are for real, go talk to a recruiter (or recruiters) and see what is available.

I'm not just talking uniformed service. I'm also looking for civ-support.
To: Crepe Ii Lupo
Not sure how or where to find GS support positions.
Still, a recruiter might know where to look on that one as well.

Dude. Be serious.
No one is safe at a Steelers game. Most of the fans are repeat offenders :o)

Raise strong patriotic Americans, who will love this country as much as you do. Fly the flag. Put "I Support The Troops" on your cars. Send them care packages. Do what you can, it's plenty with a baby girl!

For a lawyer you are pretty illiterate.
You have a computer without spell check??
I think you you are disingenuous. You don't have actual friends that you can ask these questions of? You go to strangers?

They are hiring, but in my area they're looking for people with computer service degrees.
*shrugs*
Again, not sure what they'll have available out westward.

That has to be frustrating. Years ago in the IT field, it was experience that got you into jobs. Then they wanted certifications, with or without experience (preferably with). Now they want degrees and commonly no experience or certs. *smacking forehead* Maybe we can make India out 51st State. You got FR mail.

That's exactly what is going on here, they want degrees without any real experience backing it up.
Most of the supposed entry level jobs near here are requiring degrees now as well.

"No freeper by that name."No surprise there. I was ExSoldier originally when I first got here in the middle 1990's. Then I had logon problems and the site technology was rapidly evolving and I changed screen names to become "Guns UP!" and stayed that until I appealed to Jim Robinson for some help who again made me ExSoldier. That most recent logon date is the one reflected, not my original. There is now no record of Guns UP! I got that title from a book I read about marine machinegun crews (M60). I ain't a marine.
