Expert Input Needed
5/04 | Crepe il Lupor

Posted on 05/01/2004 5:08:08 PM PDT by Crepe Ii Lupo

I'm 31 and want to assist the troops in Iraq in any way I can. Too old for enlistment which would result in anything but JAG service. Does anyone have any advice on how I can get over there and help, in any way. I'm BA, JD, good shape and very handy w/ arms (Western PA born and bred, so thats a given). Wife and 2 day old baby girl. I'll take the risk, I simply cannot sit by any longer. I must contribute.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Dude. Raise your daughter to love her country. Support our leaders, those who support freedom etc., etc. You don't have to fight to serve.

Lawyer? Your best contribution to America, to the world in general ...

start a movement to make lawyers ilegal!

At least get a law passed that if a lawyer sues - and loses - he personally pays triple damages to the sued party.

if a lawyer defends a CONFESSED criminal and gets him off on a technicality - the lawyer will assume the projected punishment - including execution (no big loss).

Lead the battle to teaches Americans the old law - mysteriously gone for 30 years now - that stated that it was ilegal for an American citizen to accept titles from foreign countries (Esquire comes to mind) - and that lawyers, as OFFICERS of the COURT could not hold legislative nor executive govt offices since that would be against our constitutions Seperation of Powers.

Want some more ways a lawyer can be useful?

Nonsense. You are below the cutoff for enlistment, although you are overage for aviation and most active duty commissioning programs.

You would be a good catch for a unit, and would get suitable training, as a Guard or Reserve soldier or officer.

If you are in Western PA, there is even a Guard Special Forces unit within driving distance. (OH). Most of its men are in their thirties and forties. The training is very hard but for an intelligent and fit man it's quite possible. Enlistment code REP 63.

And... they also serve who JAG.

Not necessarily, depending on your background and available skills. The Air Force will waive age to 31 under some circumstances for some positions, and there a couple of ways to unlock that door, assuming your health is generally good.

There are also many contractor positions available; the pay is pretty good but the working conditions are at least as bad, and there range of likely risk is great. If you've got any sort of technical background, there's probably a place where you can do some good, and the troops would probably be better served by your doing so than if a foreign national were to hold the position, which is becoming more and more the case.

But I can think of at least one way in which you could be of even more service, and a couple of variations on the themse are possible, depending the general area where you're located. If you're serious, give me a FReepmail with your zipcode, and I'll fill you in additionally.

I'd look again at Navy JAG Corps. Instinct tells me you are still in the zone for commissioning. And Navy JAGs stand full battle-staff duties.

That would certainly be a significant contribution to the War On Terror.

I salute your patriotism and wish you good luck to augment your perseverance.

You could join the Reserves. You could start ROTC and get in as an officer. You might even get in as a Warrant Officer.
