How Many Freepers Are Overweight?

I noticed that in the time I have been a member of free republic, I have put on 17 pounds. There are so many interesting topics being debated on this site, that I spend more hours here than I should, and have less time to work out.
Participating in free republic is a lot like watching TV, and if one is not careful in watching one's hours, one can turn into an internet version of a TV couch potato.
How many freepers have seen a weight gain?

I'm six feet, 195 pounds.
23 pounds over average, but there are not too many who would call me fat.

I don't know about you guys, but I have lost 75 pounds since the end of July. And my wife has lost 120 - gone from a size 22 to a size 4 since last May.
My diet plan

Do what I do. Every 15 minutes stop, pick up and press your monitor 20 times. (The 19 incher is a bear!)

I'm 5-11 and 213 lbs. No one would call me fat, either. If I were 195, I would appear skeletal.

LOL, that article was pretty funny. Just go outside, even if it's raining, or pitch dark! Very good.
Maybe it IS FR that's making me fat. I thought it was the bacon/egg/cheese on a roll that I get from the deli by work, that I'm ADDICTED to!
I hope it's the sandwiches, those I can give up, FR, never!

I guess I represent the opposite end of the spectrum here. I actually lost 107 pounds as a direct result of Free Republic. All those "low-carb" threads posted here, I used to scoff at. I figured low-carb was just another one of those "fad" diets that you read about in all those magazines at the supermarket check-out stands. But when I discovered how many Freepers swore by low-carb living, I decided to give it a try. Not Atkins per se, but a low-carb diet of my own devising based on what I read here. I also added daily exercise to my routine. As a matter of fact, I'm taking my first walk of the day in just a few minutes (which is why I'm up so early on a Saturday morning).
Anyway, I agree with you that it is not a good thing to build esteem by saying it is okay to be fat. It isn't okay to be fat (though when I was fat, I'd be the first to say "mind your own business"). I was headed towards Type II diabetes and a heart attack. My blood pressure was high. I couldn't walk up the stairs without getting out of breath and having my heart pound through my chest. Now I have so much energy that my kids can't even keep up with me! I feel 20 years younger. If there are people reading this who are obese, I highly recommend you do something about it. You will feel so much better.

Now you've done it. In a couple of days Hillary Clinton will introduce legislation restricting access to FreeRepublic unless it is accompanied by a warning pop-up window stating the danger of FReeper weight-gain. A class action lawsuit on behalf of Freepers (although none will actually participate) will be filed by the DNC, ADL, PETA, PLO, NAMBLA, MMM, CAIR, and other assorted "people oriented" organizations to save the people from the wreck-less endangerment of willingly visiting FreeRepublic. The left will find promote on every talk show "innocent victims" who were former "FReeper Fatties" who unknowingly engaged in stationary internet FReeping until their health declined to dangerous levels. Oprah will present show after show of tearful fatties who were savagely compelled to visit FR day after day, hour after hour. JobRob will be presented as the unmitigated evil who promoted the site, all the while knowing the dangers he was inflicting upon an unsuspecting populous.
Well, I wouldn't put it beyond the left...
It's for the children, donchaknow...
For the record, I've got a net loss of 20 lbs over 4 years of FReeping.
Still plan on another 10-20. I'll get there, but I'll have FUN on the way.

Dont ya know all us freepers are fat "comic book guy" typesYou mean like this guy? :)

17 pounds! That's a lot to gain from just sitting behind a computer debating topics on FR. How much of that is due to poor eating habits?
My advice is simple: Step away from the computer and get back in the gym. A few miles on the treadmill doesn't take that long.
FR will still be here when you get back.

OK I took the Mouse Potato quiz and maybe I need a little help, but how can that be? I don't even have a mouse, I have a Trackball.

"No weight gain, but definite "keyboard wrists." A trackball mouse has prevented that for me.

"I have a Trackball." Same here. I got it not too long after I got my computer because I was already having some problems with my wrists. Over 3 years with 2 different types of trackball mouse and no problems at all.

Wrist problems? Me, too. In fact, I was getting a pain running down my arm. I don't know how anyone could stand to use that dopey old mouse.
