~The Dragon Flies' Lair Thread XI~
April 17, 2004 | bentfeather, and poets of the Dragon Flies' Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guides
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and I...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Cool.
I write stuff usually late at night, when my muse seems to be feeling most fiendish.

I used to write in the early morning hours and still do during long cold winter months.

During my working years the muse would drive me from my sleep and bed to write. Man it was hard getting up to work 8 hours after having slept maybe 2 hours.

My muse, she drives me from my sleep through torment and woe if I try to ignore or remain asleep.
A muse cannot be ignored or denied.
One pays a heavy price for such 'insolence'.

Hi Bentfeather, very nice poem! Very insightful.

I've noticed most people seem to think that poets cry out from a tortured, pain-filled soul.

Naturally, I look at things a little ... differently! You are going to like this!

A Thirst for Life

I drank at life so thirstily,
I hardly paused to taste,
The sweet nectar of the essence,
I’d consumed in so much haste.

Now that the glass is nearing,
The zenith of its rise,
I try to savor every drop,
And drink more with my eyes.

The world seems filled with rainbows,
With color everywhere,
And sparkling diadems that float,
As dust motes in the air.

I’ve switched to slower motion,
To capture every glance,
I want to draw in ... Everything!
While there is still a chance.

I wonder what I’ll see on,
That distant fateful morn,
The dawning sun will rise no more,
Night’s curtain won’t be torn.

No new things to enchant me,
Will memories too fail?
I will be travelling lightly,
With new seas yet to sail.

The waters I will journey,
Will seem immense and vast,
But they are only more of what,
I’ve captured in my glass.

The liquid that refreshes me,
Will ease me when it goes,
The fire that warms me in my den,
Will yield to cooling snows.

With all these cycles turning,
There seems to be no end,
I will not fear what I may find,
Beyond the hidden bend.

Or, as I heard it quoted by someone, "One cannot dismiss their muse, foolish one."

I'm going to go to bed, I shall be paying a heavy price tonight either way.

A way out here they've got a name for wind and rain and fire
The rain is Jack the fire is Joe and they call the wind Maria
Maria blows the stars around since the clouds're flying
Maria makes the mountains sound like cold wind out there dying
Maria Maria they call the wind Maria
Before I knew Maria's name heard her wails and whining
I had a girl and she had me and the sun was always shining
And then one day I left my girl left her far behind me
Maria blowed her love to me I need her here beside me
Maria Maria they call the wind Maria
Out here they've got a name for rain and wind and fire only
But when you're lost and all alone there ain't no name for lonely
Now I'm a lost and lonely man without the stars to guide me
Maria blowed her love to me I need her here beside me
Maria Maria they call the wind Maria

I just bought Brad Paisley's new CD today. I need to find a way to post "Whiskey Lullaby" someplace. One of the saddest songs I have ever heard.

I'll put it in your folder. You can not play from the CD even if you upload it, it has to be compressed. I don't know how to do that. :-(
