~The Dragon Flies' Lair Thread XI~
April 17, 2004 | bentfeather, and poets of the Dragon Flies' Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guides
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and I...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Weeds

Poor, homely, unloved things beside the way,
That strive in voiceless ignominy, still
Undaunted though downtrodden, to fulfill
Your appointed purpose! Patient the long day
Ye take the buffetings of scornful clay,
Sustained by that small portion of God's dew
Which thick-strewn dust permits to fall on you.
And live where finer herbs must wilt away.
Have ye too, dreams of better things to be?
Of worlds in which the crooked shall be straight,
Where all that are in bondage shall be free,
And lifted up all those of low estate?
Where, to the thought that knows the potent seeds,
Weeds shall be e'en as flowers, flowers as weeds.

Good morning, Sam.

Awwww what an adorable graphic!! The poem Weeds, is a surprise. Strange where a poet's muse will take them. Thanks for coffee, tunes, donuts, and poetry. Checking the tunes now.

HI Feather. So is the Gospel any good or should I just skip it?

Such a pretty little girl! I think she can still appreciate the struggle of the weed to be a finer thing..

Why a Weed?

There is a perfect reason, for every plant you see.
Some may feed the butterflies, and some may feed the bee.
We like the ones with color, or something sweet to suck,
But some are not as pretty, and some can be bad luck!

We get a lot of medicines, and other useful things,
Regardless of the pleasant sight, or smell that each one brings.
Not all are dressed in pastels, with collars made of lace.
“A weed is just a normal plant that’s gotten out of place.”

Thanks, Miss Feather. I've discovered that a picture and a poem go together like a left shoe and a right.

Some can even make you want to whistle.

May I ask how long you have been writing? Your work just seems to flow like honey from you. Amazing talent you have. Have you submitted your work to a publisher? You really should you know. :-)

I've written poetry off and on from the time I was in high school. Since about Christmas, I have gotten downright prolific, if not better.

I do think the practice helps. Some publishers will accept as few as twenty or twenty-four poems for a book, particularly with explanatory material from the author.

But all seem to want the writer to foot the bill for the printing, at least initially. I've been looking over what I have assembled, and how it should be organized. Rather daunting, especially considering the possibilty of combining with pictures or graphics, and the copyright issues of that.

It would be nice if the world decided to beat a path to my door, but so far, everyone seems to just whiz on by.

Oh yes, writing just enhances our gift. Practice makes perfect. :-)

Can you draw? Create you own graphics. That's what I am doing for my book. With my book contract I can have 2 graphics one for the cover and one for the back at no charge, Any internal graphics I have to pay for.

Enter your work in contests. Publishers are always looking for new poets. I know for a fact I have several houses tracking me.

Books are set up in units of eight, sixteen, twenty four, and so on.

My book will be 80 pages, two of which are reserved for Title and Copyright page. So it is 79 poems. Don't become discouraged hang in there, I will help you. You will be getting FReepmail in a moment.

They used to consider wild flowers weeds, some still do. I think the things that grow wild are prettier sometimes than those planned. :-)

Good poem, good music.
