Oh, FGS. How did you stand it ? Once my fury died down, I'm sure I'd be so sad over the misery her stupidity had caused for the children and for her, too.

LOL. Uh-huh. I've always wondered about the person who first looked at a crayfish and thought.... hum, I think I'll eat that.

Some people will just never accept responsibility for their actions. In a case like that, you just have to focus on the kids. Fortuantely, it looks like we'll be able to get these boys out of the foster home and into a home placement with either a family member or a couple in the family's church. I'm working with the home studies tomorrow. Mom's going to be going away for probably at least a year, maybe longer. With her history, you'd think it would be longer, but I think it has something to do with there being someone else involved.

Yes, knowing that you've helped to improve the circumstances for the children must be a good feeling. I gather their mother is the only family member with a drug problem.

Well, I'm still not sleepy yet, so I'm going to bore everyone to death bragging on my granddaughter. LOL

She started out playing t-ball at the beginning of the summer. Oh my goodness, it was so funny. She and her teammates could barely hit off the tee. And when they did, they slung the bat, forgot to run or held onto their helmet when they did. And the infield all ran into each other after a ball and the catcher could not walk in the gear.

Now you should see those little six year old girls. They don't need the tee any more as they hit off a pitched ball by the coach, some even to the outfield. And they are now catching the ball, even pop flys and know which base to throw to, even. The catcher can now move and actually bend down in the gear. There a few subtleties of the game they still have to learn, one of which is they cannot run around the field to avoid being tagged.

But, the cutest thing is to see the posturing that has come with their improved skill and confidence...taking multiple warm up swings, dusting off home plate, exaggerated lead off positions on the bases and and their saying 'heads up' to each other on the field.

Sports are really big in this small town, but at their age, we keep it really low key. Actually, they don't even keep score, everyone plays, innings are timed and parents cheer for both teams for a good play.

I'm telling you, they are so cute, and my granddaughter is the cutest of all. LOL

"I gather their mother is the only family member with a drug problem"

Yes, she is. Actually, the grandparents were granted custody of the children at one time, but they refused to comply with the court order not to return them to their mother and they would give them back to her whenever she wanted them, not really seeing, or refusing to see, why that was a problem. The grandparents are good people and they love the boys, but they have been enablers of the mother and enablers of her behavior.

Oops, there was a typo. The writer meant to say, "Vanessa will go out at odds of 3-1 in the fifth race at Pimlico."

Well, there's certaonly no comparison between Kerry's daughters and Bush's, but to compare them to race horses?? What an insult to fine Thoroughbreds!

My husband used to work at a county clinic. You wouldn't believe the horror stories he had. He had been called to a meeting with the staff to decide how to "help" a woman who was HIV positive and kept having babies. She had several children, each one had a different father, and most of the children were HIV positive. She'd been counseled, to no avail. She continued to have sex with various men, and to have babies. My husband suggested that, at the very least, she be sterilized, so as not to bring any more HIV+ babies into the world.

Well.

He was asked to leave the meeting, in that he wasn't being "helpful". Can you imagine - an HIV+ woman, sleeping around and infecting who knows how many men, and producing HIV+ children, who are going to suffer and die, and the suggestion that sterilizing her isn't helpful? Of course, there probably isn't a legal way to sterilize her against her will, but isn't there a law against knowingly infecting your sex partners with HIV? I thought there was, but maybe California doesn't have such a law.

I suppose it's some asinine thing about the woman's privacy, just like killing her babies would be. Some of the laws are so screwed up and are completely lacking in common sense. I'm a bit concerned because I've just learned that one of my foster kids may be pregnant. This is a bright, pretty girl with a tragic history. She's about to turn 18. I'm very worried that they will try to make me offer abortion as an option, which I would be unable to do. I'm hoping it won't come up. What I'm really hoping is that the girl isn't pregnant. I know she has some medical things going on which could account for the irregularities.

Well, we can't let common sense enter into it, can we? You certainly have to deal with such horror. I just can't understand how people can be so cruel to their children. Yeah, I know, drugs. And sometimes, it's not drugs. It's just horrible people doing horrible things.

Can they MAKE you offer abortion as an option? I guess that violating YOU'RE sense of right and wrong, and offending you, is perfectly OK, as long as the protected classes aren't offended.

Oh, how nice, a new bed and new bedding to welcome you home

The new bed was delivered before I got home, hubby was there at the time. didn't have new bedding yet! So I managed with some smaller flat sheets, couldn't tuck them in, but at least had the mattress covered. It's a pretty nice set - backsupporter mattress with a very nice, plush pillowtop. So far, I love it! I'd waited too long to replace the old one. Ugh. Of course, the headboard had to go since it's too small for the Cal King, so now I've got to go shopping again and buy a new headboard.

"Can they MAKE you offer abortion as an option?"

I don't know. I guess I'm about to find out. I do know that we are supposed to help sexually active kids get birth control without parental permission. I will do my darndest to avoid that situation too. I just don't see how they can actually make you do something that is a violation of your conscience. I heard a statement yesterday to the effect of "you can't expect kids not to have sex." I had to challenge that assumption. When we were growing up, most kids were not having sex, largely because we were taught right from wrong. Sure, some did, but there was a real social stigma associated with it, and I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Now we're funding day care centers in high schools! What is wrong with this picture?
